Panther Post
April 9th - 15th
Hello Lopez Families,
I am writing this week's letter from Dallas. I have been here with our Family and Consumer Science students who were competing in the state competition. The students presented their projects in front of judges and also attended workshops on entrepreneurship and how to market their products, among other things. I love that our students are afforded these types of opportunities. Our teams earned 4th in state for Entrepreneurship and 5th for Food Innovations! Thank you Ms. Preiss for giving them the chance. I have included a picture below.
Our golf teams have been doing well and the season is coming to a close. The 7th graders did well last week at WIncrest and the 8th graders will be playing this week at Olmos. Good luck!
This week we have a really neat and needed opportunity. On Tuesday morning, presenters from the FBI are coming to present on cyber bullying and social media to our 7th and 8th graders. In the afternoon, Google and Congressman WIll Hurd are coming to speak to our 6th graders about cyber security as well. Then that night at 6:30pm, the FBI is coming back to speak to parents. You should really come see this. Thank you PTA for bringing them in that night.
One last thing. Please remember to not use the upper parking lot to pick up and drop off your kids. Before 7:30am and after 3:45pm is ok, though. Please use the lower lot during the regular pick-up/drop-off times. Thank you for your understanding.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli
Reagan Parent Information meeting for incoming freshmen
The Ronald Reagan PTA is hosting a parent information program for all current eighth grade parents. The event will take place Wednesday, April 12 from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. in the Reagan auditorium. The transition from middle school to high school can be as anxious for parents as it is for students. Let this program help relieve some of that anxiety. During the program, you will meet Reagan principal, Brenda Shelton, Reagan PTA President, Amy Fritz, and Reagan counselors who will each give an overview of what incoming freshman can expect at Reagan High School. After the program, Reagan PALS will lead attendees on a tour of the school. If you have any questions regarding this event, please email Deanna Lauer at miller3kids@yahoo.com.

Service Hours
Lopez families,
Lopez Panthers should be tracking their service hours. The hours should be tracked in their Leader in Me binder on the service hour log page. They may also track their hours for the PVSA awards website. This consists of time they spend in any type of volunteer role - at school or on their own. This will help them reach their personal goal and will help Lopez complete their school-wide important goal of 10,000 service hours this year.
Instructions on how to enter your service hours can be found at: https://snapguide.com/guides/log-presidents-volunteer-service-award-hours/.
The site for actually putting in your hours is: http://presidentialserviceawards.gov.
Send us a picture of your child in his/her service role and we will display it on a celebrations wall! mvolz@neisd.net or ftobac@neisd.net
We can't wait to see the great ways our Lopez Panthers Serve!

Jon's Run
Jon Carl Stephenson died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) on April 25, 2002, and is the inspiration for this benefit run. Although this event has Jon’s name, it honors all children whose lives ended too soon from any cause. Jon’s Run provides a time and place where families don’t have to be alone in their grief. Our Memorial Balloon Release is a beautiful tradition that offers healing and hope for families as they remember their children. The comfort and support they receive from being surrounded by others who have experienced a similar loss is a very important part of this event. Your donation and participation in Jon’s Run will help support families struggling with the loss of a child as well as help fund SIDS research and prevention.
The Jon’s Run organization thanks all those who have participated/donated for the last 15 years, and all those who continue to support this worthy cause. For more information, please visit our website, www.jonsrun.com.

Box Tops
Dear Lopez Families,
We are quickly nearing the end of the 2016-2017 school year! As we ready ourselves for summer break, it’s a great time to start an envelope in order to collect those Box Tops over the summer!! My name is Melanie Striffler and I’m excited to once again be our school’s Box Tops for Education™ Coordinator for next year.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school.
Last school year, we earned $200 for our school from Box Tops, and used the money to clean and refurbish our mascot, Prowler. This next school year, our goal is to earn $500.
For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.
Thanks for your help!
