YAY for Week 1!

We did it! Our Elephants made it through their first week of school in kindergarten. It was a great week full of learning new things such as rules, routines, each other's names, and just how our school operates. As we continue to establish more rules and routines, it is important to remind your child that listening to the teacher (and other adults in our school) is KEY to keeping them safe.

The beginning of kindergarten can be exhausting for children (and parents!), as many of them are making a huge transition and beginning to realize we don't play all day and take naps. Kindergarten is all about repetition and consistency. As a herd, we have been practicing giving our body breaks when needed. This includes movement breaks to release energy and quiet time (in the afternoon). I ask that you please make sure your child is getting enough sleep and a nutritious breakfast before they come to school. Together, we can work to ensure it will be a fantastic year for your child.

NOTE: Please make sure your child is not in line in the morning before 8:35 AM. The doors to come in open at 8:46. School starts at 8:50. If your child is tardy they are missing morning routines and this sets the tone for our day.

Thank you to everyone who brought in a donation to our classroom! These are very much appreciated and will contribute to your child's learning environment. If you feel inclined to donate more, I have attached a donation list that I will be updating throughout the year.

Painted Reflection

Thinking routines help people make their thinking visible to others. The Elephants were introduced to one type of thinking routine this week called a Painted Reflection. We will be doing many of these throughout the year. Today they were asked, "How does Kindergarten Make you feel?" The results were all different and beautiful. Some were abstract and some were more concrete. I can't wait to compare their results when we do this again at the end of the year. Check out the Seesaw app to see what we created!

Announcements + Reminders

Friday Folders: These orange folders are being sent home in your child's backpack today. This is a great way of staying connected when you can't always be here physically. One side of the folder will be for school/district offerings, the other side will be for student work. Please read through the items, empty, and send back with your child on Mondays.

Emergency Cards: This is included in the Friday folder and is needed by the office. Please fill out and return on Monday in your child's folder.

Yellow School Notes: These are yours to keep and use anytime you need to send a note with your child to school.

Snack: Please remember to send one small, healthy snack EVERY day.

Lunch: Lunch is FREE for all students for the 2021/22 school year. If your child brings a lunch from home but would like to buy a milk (white/chocolate), the cost is $0.50. Please make sure your child knows if they are buying lunch so we can help get an accurate count to the lunch room each morning. Some children have been confused, thinking their snack is their lunch.

Family Photo: If you haven't done so already, please send in a 4x6 or 5x7 family photo for our classroom so your child can visit with you throughout the day. Thank you!

Remind/Seesaw Family: Don’t forget to sign up for both of these great forms of communication. Email me if you need help with this!

Before/After School Schedule: Thank you to everyone for your patience with the bussing, drop off, and pick up procedures for the first few weeks of school. It is for your child's safety. Please remember to send a note/email if your child's schedule ever changes.
