ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
AVID ~ Inquiry-based learning is a method that prioritizes scholar questions, ideas and analyses. For scholars, inquiry-based learning focuses on investigating a question or point of confusion. They use evidence-based reasoning and creative problem-solving to reach a conclusion, which they defend or present to their peers. Teachers encourage scholars to ask questions and support them through the investigation process. Inquiry learning is used extensively during AVID tutorial sessions and many other activities in high school. At home, learning coaches can use inquiry methods to encourage their scholars to develop an independent mindset and accustomed to problem-solving.
MRS. SMITH’S TIP OF THE WEEK ~ Setting short term and long term goals can prove to be highly effective for scholars. While learning coaches are meeting with their scholar’s homeroom teacher during Parent-Teacher conferences they will discuss and create goals. Scholars will feel a sense of accomplishment and pride when they achieve their goals throughout the semester and find success in their courses.
