A Message from Mr. Olds

Greetings parents. This year has really been moving at a fast pace. We have seen many changes in the past few months and everyone has adjusted well. I am proud to see our targeted academic interventions working throughout the building. We incorporated academic assist into the last part of our school day. Our math and language arts departments are utilizing reading plus and math XL initiatives which seem to be beneficial to all students. So, please continue to encourage your students to keep reading and problem solving.

The culture in the building seems to be one that allows students to learn in a safe environment free from intimidation, harm or harassment. These factors are important for student growth and comfort level in the building. We utilize our counseling department to address different social issues throughout the course of each week and this seems to keep the communication lines open. Thank you for the continued support and entrusting us to work with your students. Keep talking, listening, learning and growing with your children as we will do the same. Have a wonderful and productive shopping weekend.

Remembering Daimyen

On Tuesday, December 13th, students of all grades gathered in the upstairs hallway to see student Daimyen Bayless’s locker get decorated for his birthday; a tradition for friends at Otsego. Lillie Luce, a friend of the student, decided that just because he’s gone physically, doesn’t mean his memory shouldn’t be forgotten at the place we all knew him best. She organised the decorating, inviting other friends to make cards, print photos, and draw things for their friend. Many students stood in the hall, reminiscing while everything was being placed. In attendance was Daimyen’s mother, Chasity, Lillie’s mother, Dannie, and OJHS Counselor, David Fryling.

As many know, Daimyen is a student at Otsego that passed away on July 10th of this year due to injuries after a car accident. His friends threw a memorial for him shortly after, on the 12th. This gained local news attention, as some were interviewed about the person they’d all just lost. This is now an annual memorial and is held in Grand Rapids, where Daimyen grew up.

Daimyen would have been an eighth grader this year at Otsego, however, his friends are sure to bring him with wherever they go. His smile is an image engraved into the minds of peers forever.

Rest in Peace, Daimyen

JH Cheer Fundraiser

The Jr. High cheerleaders are doing a fundraiser to help pay for signs, pom poms, uniforms in the future, etc. They are selling black bracelets with an Otsego snap, Ohio State snap and various sport snaps. Checks payable to: Otsego Board of Education. Attached is an order form. If you are interested, please contact Rachel Eckel or any of the Jr. High cheerleaders. You may also send completed orders in a sealed envelope to the JH office. They have 100 Otsego snaps and 50 Ohio State snaps right now, so first come first serve if you want them before Christmas. They will be getting another 100 Otsego and 50 Ohio State snaps after Christmas. We encourage you to still order even if you don't get the bracelet until after Christmas, that way we know how many we are selling and if we need to get even more. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rachel Eckel @ Reckel@otsegoknights.org. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone in the community that would like a bracelet.
