The Weekly Update
Week of 10/16/23
Welcome to LP3, everyone!
We are halfway through October! There is some time sensitive information below, so please read through everything carefully, and let me know if you have any questions.
Dates to Remember/Things to Do:
- Please mark attendance asap if you have not done so! See my email from Friday if you need instructions.
- Friday, November 3 - Work samples due (details below)
- November 7-15 - LP3 Meetings (*Note for 1st Wednesday meetings- we will be meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 8, NOT on Nov. 1!)
Tech Bundles coming soon!
Some helpful things to know:
These bundles will require NO Planning amounts
The usual tech rule applies: Students are only allowed possession of one computer and one iPad (base model) at a given time. (excluding the $50 Chromebook and the SORA iPad. You are able to have both a computer and the $50 Chromebook. You are able to have both an iPad and a SORA iPad)
If your student already has both an iPad and a computer, you can choose to upgrade and return their current device. You will simply select one of the UPGRADE options below. If this option is selected the tech team will provide information as to how to return your current device
Families will select one of the options below from the Procurify catalog based on your student's grade level
There will be a 6 week lead time for all of these orders
These options will become available on November 1, 2023, in the Procurify catalog and they will only be available during the month of November
The list of Applications will be coming soon!
LP3 Work Samples
Our LP3 work sample will be Social Studies. Texting me a screenshot or emailing a pdf, whatever's easiest for you is totally fine. Please make sure the following are included on the work sample:
- Student first and last name (they must write their own name- for TK/K, you may write their last name)
- Date the assignment was completed (Between 10/16/23 and 11/16/23- please make sure it's a school day- Saturdays, Sundays and any holidays won't be accepted)
- Subject (Social Studies this time for TK-8th)
- A grade from you (TK-3rd grade can be a star or happy face, 4th-12th grade must be a percentage, letter grade, or ratio)
*Remember, this must be a sample of student's best work!
IXL
For those of you who feel you would like a more in depth assessment of where your child is at academically, the IXL diagnostic assessment is a great resource!
*For students who want to participate in the October challenge or any challenge in the months to follow must complete the diagnostic assessment FIRST (which was actually the September challenge). I've had a couple students logging on and answering questions (which is great!) but it won't count without the diagnostic assessment being completed first. There is one for math and one for language arts.
If you are having trouble logging in, let me know, and I would be happy to help you!
Library Update
See the flyer below regarding due date extensions!
Thinking Maps- the Tree Map
This is a great map for using to categorize things. One way I used it in the classroom was I had my students brainstorm and jot down (using words or pictures) as many nouns as they could think of on scraps of paper or post-its. Then we would go through all the nouns they came up with and categorize them on the tree map (persons, places, animals, and things). Feel free to try it!
You can find additional Thinking Map resources here!
