Halloween Parade

Hello Whitesides Families,

I know I'm a little early mentioning this but wanted to give you a heads-up, as you may be looking at Halloween costumes well in advance. Whitesides will have a Halloween parade on Monday, October 31st, at 9:30 a.m. Parents are invited to watch the parade. Exact location of the parade at the school will be forthcoming. Teachers will need to know what/who your child is dressing up as by Friday, October 14th. To ensure the parade is a positive experience for students and a tradition that we can continue, please carefully note the following restrictions on costumes.

*Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group. Culture is not a costume. In respect to the Native American view, students cannot dress up as Pocahantas, Sacagawea, Sitting Bull, etc. This is cultural appropriation and is inappropriate.

*Skin color cannot be altered in any way.

*No masks.

*Costumes cannot be gory or threatening.

*No costumes that depict illegal substances.

*No hand-held accessories (i.e., wands, weapons, etc.).

*No strapless costumes or mid-drifts. Underwear should not be visible.

*Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political, or offensive.

If you are unsure about a particular costume, please feel free to contact Ms. Schulz or your child's teacher.

Parents should not come dressed in costume.

I hope this will be a fun event for all!
