Principal's Post...
Hello Patriot Family!
I hope you have all had a wonderful and relaxing weekend!
We experienced a great first week with our students in person and it was a breath of fresh air to experience our lives closer to "normal" than what we have known in months! The children were full of smiles and laughter and our halls were full of chatter! Music to our ears!
Please know we continue to navigate what it means to be teachers of remote students. We continue to learn and we invite you to continue to reach out to us in how we can help you at home! We know that while this is new to us, this is also new to you! As a working mom myself, I completely understand what it means to have a middle school student on a hybrid schedule working from home! Our teachers understand this as well, so please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions.
At this time, our spots for "remote learning" are full. We cannot add any more virtual learners to classes as a result of class size limits. Our in person learning is going very well, students are doing very well with mask wearing and social distancing and we cannot brag on them enough!
Please know we are here for our Liberty Bell students and families! We are thrilled to be "back in business" and we look forward to week two in person!
One challenge we have been working through and that we are helping to support students in understanding is how to submit work. Please know that if a teacher does not receive an assignment from your child and asks that they resubmit, they are not asking them to "redo" the assignment. In most cases, the teacher expects and believes that the assignment has been saved, but has not received it and just needs the child to "resubmit." We can absolutely help your child if the submission isn't working and know that our teachers are willing to do this without penalty. No reason to panic. I say that because as a parent, when my 8th grader says things to me like, "I did the assignment, but couldn't submit it to my teacher..." I PANIC. Please know we will help you.
Also, please know that if you have immediate needs with your child's computer, while we have a Tech Help line, please call the school and our tech assistance can assist you. Feel free to call the office and our IT support, Dustin can either call you back or meet you in our office to help you on the spot. Just let us know you need help, so we can make sure we have someone ready to help.

JCS to provide free breakfast and lunch for children 18 and under
Johnson City Schools is pleased to announce that with the action taken by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), free breakfast and lunch will be provided to any child 18 and under until December 31, 2020.
“Allowing all children to receive free meals prioritizes the role that good nutrition plays for effective learning,” Supervisor of Food Service Karen McGahey said. “We encourage all of our families to take full advantage of this benefit as it directly affects and helps the most vulnerable in our community – our children.”
Free and reduced applications are still being collected and processed and it is recommended that families continue this process to be prepared for when the universal free option ceases.
The action taken by the USDA means that Johnson City Schools can:
- ANY child, 18 and under, will receive free meals. They do not have to be enrolled in a Johnson City school.
- Parents picking up meals for students not in attendance will be required to certify proof of parental oversite and list the names of children who will receive the meals.
- Breakfast and lunch may be distributed at the same time.
- Only two meals per day may be offered, per child.
- Meals can now be distributed during school closures such as Fall Break, Thanksgiving, and Winter Break.
For more information about our meal pick-up schedule and mobile food schedule please visit www.jcschools.org and click on the school lunch program button on the home page.
