Overview:
Component 4F is about showing your professionalism for the field of teaching. We need to be maintaining ethical conduct, advocacting for our students, and following the rules of school district.Component 4F is about how to conduct yourself as a professional in the teaching field. It is focused upon being ethical, advocating for our students, high standards of decision making, and obeying school district rules.
Why?
Component 4F is important because
- Professionalism is about trust, honesty, integrity, confidentiality, & advocacy.
- It refers to how a teacher conducts himself/herself in the school, with colleagues, students, and the community.
- It focuses upon service to both students and to the profession of education.
- We need to understand that our interactions with others has a direct impact on student learning.
Elements
Integrity and ethical conduct.
- As teachers we are required to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and trust with our students, colleagues, administration, and community.
- We must also be confidential and protect our students' identities when we are in the public space and online.
- Watch what we say, we never know who is listening or within earshot.
- We must be ethical in our interactions with our students, peers, and community members.
Service to students.
- We need to be available to assist students.
- We need to be seeking our resources and tools that can assist our learners in the classroom.
Advocacy.
- Some students may not have a voice, and we need to the advocate in their corner.
- We need to honor and serve ALL students in our classroom, and in our school.
Decision making
- We must make decisions as they relate to standards of professionalism.
- We should take part in departmental teams or groups and if possible, consider a leadership role.
Compliance with school and district regulations
- We need to abide by & adhere to all district and school policy as per the teacher handbook.
- We may even need to model or take a leadership role in order to demonstrate policies.
