Colonial Park Weekly News

December 13 - December 17

Principal's Note

Dear Colonial Park Families -

The countdown is on! Eight and a half more school days until our December break...I think it is coming at the perfect time for everyone!

Thank you to our families and teachers for a successful two days of Parent Teacher Conferences. I think it was helpful to offer both virtual and in-person options, and I hope the district continues to provide this choice to families even after we have made it through this pandemic. Thank you also to Karine Dalton and all the volunteers for such a wonderful Book Fair. Our students loved it, and the selection of books from the Book Oasis was perfect.

We are also extremely grateful for the generosity of the Colonial Park community and the participation of so many in our annual Giving Tree. As a result of this community, we are able to provide support during the holidays to both Colonial Park families and Casa Myrna. Casa Myrna is Boston’s largest provider of shelter and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence. The Giving Tree would not be possible without Ms. Faughnan, and I would like to recognize her commitment to this project also.

As a reminder, Thursday, December 23 is an Early Release Day for all K-4 students, with dismissal at 12:00pm. Miss Jean's preschool friends will be released at 11:40, and there will be no afternoon session for Miss Kelsey. The After School Program will run from 12 to 3:00, and lunch will not be available. If your child will be attending the After School Program on Thursday, December 23, please pack a lunch for him or her.

I hope everyone has a productive week!

Sincerely,

Rosa Flynn

Fill out this form to enter your pizza creation into our contest! This form will be open until the end of the day, December 13. Voting will begin on December 14, and end at 11:59 pm on December 16. The winner will be announced on December 17, and will get their very own pizza made by Pizza Mia on December 20! This winning pizza will be available to purchase that day, and the winner will receive a free pizza (their creation) courtesy of PTO.

The Giving Tree -- Below is the wish list for the Giving Tree 2021. This year we are again sending it out virtually instead of having a lot of people come into the school to get tags. Thank you in advance for all you do for these families. All gifts should come back unwrapped with a piece of paper or sticky note with their code attached by Monday 12/13/21. If you are unsure of the code, (it should be a number or a letter), please stop into the office and Ms. Faughnan can help you with the code. Thank you to Ms. Faughnan for organizing this wonderful opportunity to give back each year!

Coats for Kids and Families Drive -- Two weeks left! Colonial Park is excited to be part of Coats for Kids again this year! If you have coats (in good condition) that your family has outgrown, please consider dropping them off in the bin in the school lobby. Coats will be professionally cleaned by Anton’s Dry Cleaners and distributed to kids and families in need. All sizes are welcome (infant through adults). This drive will end on December 22.

Art Room Volunteers -- Mrs. P, our wonderful art teacher, is looking for volunteers to help prepare, mount, and display student artwork on Thursday and Friday mornings. If you’d like to learn more or sign up to help, please use this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0A4AADAA2EAAF49-artroom.

Preparing for Winter Weather

There has definitely been a chill in the air lately, and we continue to make our best effort to have students outdoors as much as possible. When the air temperature or wind chill factor is 20 degrees or below, students will remain indoors, and precipitation is also always taken into account. If there is indoor arrival, a flag will be out at the main entrance, and we will also be mounting a second flag outside of Door 8 in the near future. All students may enter through the main entrance during indoor arrival.

Please make sure your child is dressed for the cold temperatures each day, with a warm coat, hat, and mittens or gloves.Thank you for your continued support and cooperation!

Second Annual Colonial Park Winter Pajama Day!

To celebrate December Break, all staff and students are invited to participate in a school-wide Pajama Day on Thursday, December 23! This is a half day, with 12:00 dismissal for all students K-4, and 11:40 dismissal for Miss Jean's Preschool students. There will be no PM session for Miss Kelsey's class. The After School Program will run from 12 to 3:00pm.
