Oleksiy from Ukraine
Oleksiy, is a FLEX scholarship recipient from a small provincial town in Ukraine. He has many fond memories of his city. Oleksiy lives there in a home with his grandparents, parents and sister. "I love them because we do everything together." Oleksiy and his father enjoy playing football together, he and his mother go shopping, with his grandfather he cleans the yard, and he helps his granny with the cooking. "I'm very lucky to have a happy and friendly family." Oleksiy describes himself as a sociable person who has lots of friends, together they share the same hobbies: watching action films, playing football, reading books and listening to rock and pop music. His dream is to visit America and play American football, it would be so great for him to see something new and that atmosphere. "As for me, it is fantastic." He enjoys spending time with his friends, he is very happy they are in his life because he knows he can always rely on them! Oleksiy's plans for the future include becoming a sports journalist-"having the opportunity to play different sports abroad will add more experience to my future career." Oleksiy is good natured and adapts easily to new situations--"I will fit perfectly into your family :)"
Jennet from Turkmenistan
Jennet writes, "Her hopes and dreams are always on the rise..you're helped to see life through American eyes." Winning the FLEX scholarship for the opportunity to stay with an American family will certainly open Jennet's eyes to many new hopes, dreams and wishes for the future. She lives in Turkmenistan with her parents, little sister, cat and parrot. Her town is small and friendly, and she never minds running errands with her family or just staying home to take care of her sister. When she is out and about, Jennet always brings her camera. She loves capturing small moments and making albums. Imagine the images she capture through the "American eyes!" She also enjoys playing violin and piano. She and her friends volunteer at a center for disabled children. She would like to be a pediatrician when she grows up. Jennet means "heaven" in her native language. It would be heaven to her to hear the news that she gets selected to come to the US. Her year will be so useful, wonderful and unforgettable for everyone.
Ryvann from Suriname
Ryvann is from a small village in Suriname, in his village on the river, he lives with his parents and great grandfather. Ryvann and his parents love music, fishing, camping and swimming. "On holidays I often go fishing or camping with my dad, neighbors and uncles." Ryvann and his cousins enjoy making music and playing video games together. When his family celebrates a birthday they make music and dance together, "I play the guitar." With his friends, Ryvann likes to play chess, go to the movies, take pictures (of themselves and nature), and most often do homework together. "It is always fun when we are together." Ryvann has many plans for the future his biggest is that he hopes to help people, "especially children who are in need." Ryvann believes everyone has a chance for a better future and by helping children it will bring himself, the country and the world forward. It is sad for Ryvann to see people begging for food, when some people use it for food fights, seeing some students fight so hard to attend school while others don't want to go. He knows it is time for a change and he knows that change starts with himself. Ryvann is dreaming for his dreams to come true--"a dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work." Ryvann is going to make sure that he achieves his goals. Ryvann is sure to make an impact in the world--and it will all begin when you chose to host him for the upcoming school year!
