Fall Back!
Dear Altadena Eliot Arts Families,
Fall is definitely in the air and so are the ARTS! To truly be a part of an arts magnet school means that our students are deeply involved in the arts every day.
I am blown away this week as I watch our arts conservatory build and grow from elementary to middle school. First, we had a beautiful PTA Reflections Art Show last Wednesday. Then on Saturday, our middle school hosted their fall festival, a joyous celebration of all our music programs including our new Drumline and Jazz Band!
While our musicians were playing, our middle school actors were at a competition where every single student made it to the final round!
Last week, we were so honored to have 2 Principals for the Day, thanks to our incredible partnership with the Pasadena Educational Foundation. First we welcomed Mr. Danny Feldman, the Executive Artistic Director of the Pasadena Playhouse and then we were honored to have Ms. Margaret Starbuck, the Associate Artistic Director of Boston Court! Both of our Principals for the Day were incredibly impressed by our students, programs and facilities. We look forward to being in continued partnership with both of these amazing professionals in our community!
And then on Monday, we have the opening of our Pop Up Art Show called, "Connections" where our middle school students have created a visual arts show at the elementary site. Parents are welcome to come view the show opening at 2pm on Monday.
All of this awesomeness is made possible by 3 things: incredibly talented, dedicated teachers, a clearly articulated shared vision and the bountiful MSAP grant funds.
Now that our middle school has secured the multimillion dollar grant, our planning kicks into high gear. I invite parents and community members to get involved. Please join us this Tuesday at 6pm for our PT(S)A meeting in the Eliot Arts library to hear more about our plans for students K-8 grade. We have lots of fun and exciting work to do together and we need you in "the room where it happened" to continue visioning together.
Some of the items we will begin discussing are:
- Rebranding as one school, two campuses
- Arts Conservatory Design
- Advisory Board of Professionals in the Field
- Parent Engagement
- Spreading the word on what's really going on in middle school/changing the narrative

"I heard that our principal has sprouted wings and is flying around Altadena!"
"I heard that our Annual Fund is donating all its money to purchase a private jet!"
Wanna know what's really going on in your child's school? Wanna have a voice in dreaming, visioning and planning what actually happens in our school? Don't be a backseat driver. Get off that couch and come join us! We have childcare, food and translation. I'll even come pick you up at your house, if you want. There's not excuse to stay uninvolved. Remember the good old days, when we used to have 40 people at our meetings? I know it's hard to get out of bed and come in person now when we got used to being in our PJs for our Zoom meetings but we need human connection. There's so much tone and warmth lost when we are squares on a computer screen. What makes a good school great? YOU! Will you join us on Tuesday at 6pm? I look forward to connecting with you!
