Thesis

Feminism in Pakistan, Greece, Vietnam, and the United States vary on several different accounts, with cultural values, progressiveness, and resources playing major roles in their stances on the topic, but one thing is clear; the world needs to work on improving women's rights.

The World Needs Feminism Because...

According to dictionary.com, the definition of feminism is 'the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men'.

Pakistan vs America

The Gender Gap Report Of 2009 (Hausmann R,Tyson L,Zahidi S) contains case studies of 134 countries, including Pakistan, ranking these countries on their ability to protect, and provide equal rights to their women.

Pakistan- Pakistan is ranked 102 in wage equality for similar work, 130 in primary school enrollment, and 133 in healthy life expectancy

United States- The United States is ranked 64 in wage equality for similar work, ranked 1st in enrollment in primary schools and 63 in healthy life expectancy.

Vietnam vs America

Vietnam

“After the war, women were treated even worse than their male compatriots were, although they were now Veterans. In addition, the all too common sexual harassment that women receive in society was also prevalent in the military.”

“Aside from Daniel Lang's Casualties of War, a brilliantly-compact and harrowing account of the kidnap, gang-rape, and murder of a young Vietnamese girl”

America

"1 out of every 6 american women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime(14.8% completed; 2.8% attempted rape)" " Every 107 seconds, another American is sexually assaulted. Here's the math.According to the U.S Department of Justice's National Crime Victimization Survey(NCVS)--there is an average of 293,066 victim's(age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year. There are 525,600 minutes in a non-leap year. That makes 31,536,00 seconds/year. So, 31,536,00 divided by 293,066 comes out to 1 sexual assault every 107 seconds."

Greece vs America

Greece- 26% of women are unemployed compared to 19% of men.

America- Almost equal, men aged 35-44 had an unemployment rate of 4.1% and women had a rate of 4.2%

Greece- 50% of university graduates are women, and only 36% get a long term job.

America- In 2016 it is estimated that 56% of college graduates will be women, and only 46% will get a long term job.

Greece- Women make approximately less than three quarters of what men make.

America- Men make around $50,383, while women make around $39,621.

Conclusion

Women's rights are an issue throughout the world, and need to be focused on. The cultures we focused on, Pakistan, Greece, Vietnam, and the United States all stand at varying degrees of equality, but there's one thing in common with them all; things need to change.
