A Note From The Assistant Principal’s Desk!
As we enter a season of thanks and giving, I am reminded of our school’s core values. One of our core values at ACE is Leaders Building Leaders. This core value also aligns with our district framework of Portrait of a Graduate. Developing effective leaders is pivotal not just for our student’s future but essential that they have time to demonstrate those leadership skills at school, at home, and in their community.
Students have opportunities to lead in various ways in our school by taking on class jobs, safety patrol, assisting others with opening their food items during lunch or breakfast, distributing/collecting lunch tags, walking younger Blue Jays to class, etc.
There are many types of leaders. As a school community, we must intentionally prepare our students with skills of collaboration, cultural awareness, speaking, listening, writing, ownership, and servitude. One of my favorite styles of leadership is Servant Leadership. A servant-leader focuses primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong.
As we approach the season of Thanksgiving, think about how you and your family can support leadership, servitude, and gratitude with your child(ren). New U.S. research has found that we may get longer-lasting happiness by giving to others rather than receiving for ourselves.
I challenge you and your family to check out these resources on Gratitude and Leadership Activities. This is a great opportunity to bond as a family and deposit seeds of being grateful.
“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.”

Attendance Interventions are coming
Now that we have gotten through the large wave of illnesses in September and early October, we will begin focusing more on our attendance rates, which remain low compared to past school years. Why? Because when kids are in school, they are learning and making progress. When they are not here, they are not making progress. It's really that simple!
What you can expect from us regarding upcoming attendance monitoring
If your student has 10 or more unexcused absences, you will receive communication from Mr. Edwards regarding the excessive absences. If you have notes that have not been turned in, you will be given a chance to do so. We also will communicate next steps on intervention.
If your student has 5 or more unexcused absences, you will receive communication from Mr. Edwards to make you aware of this and communicate any next steps.
If your student has been absent more than 10 days from school, excluding illness dates, for any other reason, you will receive communication from the school regarding our next steps of intervention.
Attendance is a VERY important component of everyday life here at ACE. As always, we as a school want to partner with you to make sure kids are here each and every day.
Below you will see a current snapshot of attendance at ACE. The target each day is 97%, and while we have rebounded in recent weeks, there is still work to do. You also can see the attendance percentage for the year by grade level
New Staff Highlight
In one week we will welcome Kendra Simonton to our team as the instructional technology para who works with Mrs. Walden in technology! She previously was a behavior specialist with the counseling department at the district level and worked in our Pre-K classrooms as we started the school year. She has a background in teaching technology and will be a great fit here.
We are currently interviewing for the following positions:
RTI interventionist
Special education interventionist
Traffic Request
For the safety of Autumn Creek staff and students, we ask that you do the following:
Please do not park on the Autumn Creek side of the street if you park there after school. Only use the opposite side. This helps with traffic flow and visibility for those exiting our driveway.
Put your phones away. When you are on the streets and in our driveway, you are in a school zone and phone use is prohibited. Several times in the last week we have had cars in the driveway swerve toward staff because people were using their phones while driving.
If you arrive in the morning between 7:55 and 8:00am, there will be no staff to open car doors for your children. Staff have to move inside to go to their classroom assignments at that time. We will have adults posted at entry doors to make sure kids get inside.
