Dinner and Letter Jacket Ceremony

Date: Friday, October 19, 2018

Time: 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Place: Austin High Cafeteria

This FRIDAY is the Dinner and Letter Jacket Ceremony. Any parents or family members wanting to attend the dinner and purchase a meal can do so on the booster website. The DEADLINE to order a meal is MONDAY, OCTOBER 15. The cost per meal is $9.00.

Important Information about Student and Guest Meal Orders

This meal is included in the pre-paid 2018 Game Day Meal Plan. All band members who purchased this plan DO NOT need to order this meal.

This year we have fantastic food from Paco’s Tacos. They are an Austin local FAVE and will be serving up their very special beef and chicken fajita tacos and includes freshly made salsa and homemade beans, rice + chips and queso! Skip the tortillas if you want a gluten-free option.

For the vegetarian crowd we will have a veggie tray with sautéed spinach, hatch chilies, and mushrooms served in a warm special blend tortilla. Black beans and rice on the side. And of course don't forget your chips and queso!

You may order and pay online on the booster website (ahsmaroonband.org). At checkout, please include your student’s name in the notes field. If you prefer to pay by check or cash, a hard copy order form will be available soon and can be downloaded and printed from the booster website.

Please contact Diolanda Lovings at dmzlovings@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Q&A with Gabriel Brown

In an ongoing feature for the weekly newsletter, we're conducting Q&A sessions with different members of the Mighty Maroon Band so we can get to know them a bit better. This week we're profiling one of our Section Leaders - Gabriel Brown and our Color Guard Captain - Leti DeLeon.

1. Your name and position in band

Gabriel Brown - Trumpet Section Leader.

2. What instrument(s) do you play?

I play trumpet but have also dabbled in flugelhorn.

3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

My algebra teacher told me that grades aren't everything and that you shouldn't think of yourself as a number.

4. Where do you see yourself five years from now?

I see myself with a degree in music performance or engineering.

5. What's your favorite movie of all time?

My favorite movie of all time is DRIVE (2011). This movie starts out kind of low key, but eventually gets super intense.

I play the violin in the Varsity Orchestra.

3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

The 24 hour rule where the content you learn needs to sit in your brain for a day so that when you come back to it, it will be easier to work with than when you first learned.

4. Where do you see yourself five years from now?

If I have not already graduated with a bachelor's degree, then I should be working on a master's degree in college.

Email Issues

We continue to have issues with recipients who have gmail addresses in CHARMS. We have been told by CHARMS support staff that email providers, like Google, have a send limit per a 24 hour period of approximately 100 emails. Any numbers exceeding that range are often blocked or may take longer to deliver. We currently have over 230 gmail accounts registered in CHARMS. Unfortunately, this means that when a large Group Email is sent, not all gmail recipients are getting the emails right away. As a result, we are currently looking into other means to send out our emails. We apologize for any inconvenience as we are doing our best to rectify the situation.
