We had too much science to include in our regular weekly news!!
Bubbles and Bridges
Last week we worked through the design process to finish our bubble wand creations and to build bridges. Here are some highlights.
Bubbles!
Multi-Subject Planning
Students wrote letters to remember what they were responsible to bring, in addition to recording information about purpose and outcomes in their science journals.
Students used measurement from math to make a bubble solution for testing their wands.
Picture sketches of their plans brought art into the process.
Technology included using the Slo-Pro app to catch the process in action.
CREATION!
Students work to turn a frisbee into a BIG bubble wand.
Purpose
Groups chose the function of their wands. This group created a wand to try and make double bubbles.
Team Building
A small group of students show off their creation.
Bridges
Students worked in pairs to design and build bridges after reading The Gingerbread Man. We found a way to help the Gingerbread man get across the water without the help of the fox!
Trial and Error
After working on original designs, students placed Unifix Cubes on it to test its stability.
15!
This pair discovered adding more toothpicks in a criss-cross design made their bridge sturdier.
From Page to Bridge
Students look at their design to create and modify their bridge.
