END OF YEAR STUDENT REMINDERS
As the end of the school year approaches, we have seen an increase in the following areas and would like to remind students that it is still “business as usual” until May 24th.
Food and drinks: We ask that students not bring food and drinks into the locker/classroom wings. Students are also reminded that they are not supposed to be purchasing items at lunch to be taken to classsrooms. What is purchased in the lunchroom should be consumed in the lunchroom.
Phones: Students are reminded that their phones should be turned off and put away during school hours. If they need to contact parents they should come to the office or speak with a teacher. Please see pg. 8 of the student handbook for the policy governing electronic devices at school.
Chromebooks: Charge your Chromebooks nightly. They are an essential part of daily classes.
Dress Code: As the weather gets warmer, students will be pulling out their old shorts and tops. Students at this age can grow a considerable amount from Fall-Spring. Please make sure spring clothes fit appropriately and meet the district’s dress code policy. Please see pg. 8 of the student handbook for the policy governing dress code at school.

A note from the Foodbank for the Heartland
Elkhorn Community,
Thank you for supporting your students in the BackPack Drive and for helping to fight childhood hunger, across the Heartland. It has been incredible to see students making a difference in our community, with your support.
The Elkhorn students, staff, and community raised $26,199 along with donating 652 lbs. of food! 320 children will have weekend meals, for an entire school year, because of your efforts and the matching funds from the Woodhouse Auto family. I attached the program report for the Food Bank for the Heartland’s backpack program so you could see the reach of the impact you are having on the lives of students.
We are grateful for the Elkhorn community and grateful for what you do each and every day to shape the lives of students.
Gratefully,
Joanne Kamppinen
8TH GRADE CELEBRATION
See the information on the flyer below. Don't forget to to be sure and get your T-shirt orders in by May 2. Volunteers and donations are still needed to help make this event great!
THANKS MRS. CORRELL and the YEARBOOK STAFF!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
A huge thank you goes out to Sally Correll for helping to put together this year’s yearbook. Sally dedicated herself to the yearbook from September until March. The students who were a part of yearbook learned picture taking skills, planning, organization, and the importance of deadlines from Mrs. Correll. A big thank you to her for helping make Elkhorn Grandview Middle School’s yearbook a success!
SPORTS PHYSICALS FOR 2023-2024
All 7th & 8th graders for the 2023-2024 school year who plan to participate in sports at EGMS along with any 6th grader who wishes to participate in running club will need a sports physical indicating that they are cleared without restriction. Please contact your health care provider to arrange for your child to get a Sports Physical for next year. Keep in mind that Sports Physicals for next school year must be dated after May 1, 2023. Most physician offices will get very busy in late summer so schedule your appointments early. Fall sports will begin the first week of school in August and students are not allowed to participate without having a Sports Physical turned in. If your student is a 7th grader for 2023/2024 they require a full physical (including a Tdap Booster) which will cover the Sports Physical requirement.
SUMMER ACTIVITY CAMPS
Each summer Elkhorn coaches and sponsors offer a variety of sports/activity camps for students of all ages. Look for more information located on the Bulletin Board below.

End-of-Year Letter from the Principal
May 1, 2023
Dear Middle School Parents:
Wednesday, May 24 ends another school year for students in the Elkhorn Public Schools. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. No lunch will be served. In cooperation with local business owners and to ensure all kids are safe, we encourage you to visit with other parents regarding gatherings and group parties. Please be informed where your student(s) are going, with whom, what the purpose of the gathering is and what the supervision will be.
We are very proud of EGMS students but do realize that large group gatherings in public/private places without adult supervision can lead to inappropriate behaviors. We want all students to end their year in a very positive manner.
Other important information regarding the last student day:
Backpacks will not be allowed at school on the last day.
Pick-Up traffic will likely be much slower but it is very important that your child is picked up in a timely manner.
Backpacks or other containers are not allowed at school on the last day. We do monitor this and hold bags, hats and jackets until dismissal. This is done to eliminate the chances of students bringing inappropriate items. The only items allowed at school on May 24 will be:
Camera/Phone
Pen/Pencil/Marker
Yearbook.
Yearbooks were all ordered on-line this year by parents.
Please have your student check the Yearbook List outside the office to see if they are on it. If they are not on the list, they did not order a yearbook.
If students did not order a yearbook, they may bring a notebook or something similar to have students sign.
All personal items need to be taken home by the last full day of school, Monday, May 23.
Lastly, the Douglas County Sheriff's office does make it a point to send extra officers to area secondary (MS and HS) schools on their last student day. This has been normal protocol for a number of years.
The administration and staff thank you for your cooperation and support, and we wish you all a very relaxing and enjoyable summer vacation. I have been able to celebrate the final day of school for the last 51 consecutive years! What a blessing. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Michael E. Tomjack
