Gainesville Middle School

Dear Parents,

The school year is off to a great start! 7th grade parent night is September 15th at 6:00 p.m. You will start with your student’s encore teacher and work your way through their core classes. We look forward to meeting you!

Math- Mrs. Higgins or Mrs. Dronet

Extended Math--We have been working hard on our first Unit with our first test on Friday, 9/16. Remember to use IXL not just for retakes but practice. Take that binder home EVERY NIGHT.

Math 7--We have been working on modeling and solving integer operation problems. Students should take their binder home EVERY night to review their notes and to look on IXL for special lessons to practice. Retakes are offered for quizzes and students must complete IXL in order to schedule a retake. information: Username: firstnamelastname588 Password: ###### (student number)

Science- Mrs. Thompson

In science we are continuing our study of cells. Students will need to study the various organelles they have been learning about. We will be looking at various types of cells under the microscope. I give regular quick checks that help students recognize how much they know and pin point the areas that they need more work on. Graded quick checks should be in the graded work section of their science binder. Please encourage your student to review classwork and weak areas on their quick checks. The next quick check is this Friday and will cover Target 5: Cell theory.

Language Arts- Mrs. Bleier

We had a great start this week in Language Arts, as we are reviewing how to find the main idea of what we are reading. In addition, we've been introduced to our first set of word parts and vocabulary. Both can be practiced on and which the students were instructed to join for homework. Finally, there is a quiz on Main Idea and Inferencing this Friday. While students are quizzing I will be doing a binder check. They need to have a binder with 5 tabs and pockets for this class. Each tab has been labeled as follows: Valuable Vocabulary, Writer's Wisdom, Reader's Response, Current Content, and Numerous Notes. Please let me know if you are unable to supply these materials for any reason. Thank you.

Students need to bring their independent reading book to class every day!

Social Studies- Mrs. Schedler

This week in Social Studies we are learning about the Reconstruction period and the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. Students have a quiz on Monday. Your students know exactly what will be on the quiz so they know what to study.
