Geography
What continent is Germany on? It is in Europe. Major landforms: The land then rises into the forested uplands of central Germany. Major landforms here include the volcanic in origin Harz Mountains and the thickly wooded Rothaargebirge Mountains. Further south the rounded hills and mountains of the Eifel and Huynsruck uplands front the Rhine River Valley,
Major landmarks: The ultimate fairytale castle, Neuschwanstein is situated on a rugged hill near Füssen in southwest Bavaria. It was the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty castles in the Disneyland parks. The castle was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria who was declared insane when the castle was almost completed in 1886 and found dead a few days later. Neuschwanstein is the most photographed building in the country and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany,
Major bodes of water: Baltic Sea is a large body of water northeast of Germany. Danube River is a river that starts in southwestern Germany and flows out of Germany through the German/Austrian border. Elbe River is a river that flows into Germany from the Czech Republic and it runs through Dresden and Hamburg, eventually going into the North Sea,
Geo.: The large rivers promoted trade. The Rhine is a major transport route from the sea in Netherlands right through to the southern end of the rift valley. The Elbe is navigable from Cuxhaven on the coast through Hamburg to Prague in the Czech Republic. Although the Weser is a lesser river it did give access to the sea for Hanover.

Climate
Germany's climate is moderate and has generally no longer periods of cold or hot weather. Northwestern and coastal Germany have a maritime influenced climate which is characterized by warm summers and mild cloudy winters, Average rainfall yearly: 2011-2015 is 700 in.
The average January daytime temperature is 3°C (38°F) and in July is 22°C (72°F). Extremes commonly reach -10°C (5°F) in winter and 35°C (95°F) in the summer months. The highest annual temperatures tend to be in the southwest, where there's almost a Mediterranean feel to the landscape at times.
The concept of Germany as a distinct region in central Europe can be traced to Roman commander Julius Caesar, who referred to the unconquered area east of the Rhine as Germania, thus distinguishing it from Gaul (France), which he had conquered. The victory of the Germanic tribes in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (AD 9) prevented annexation by the Roman Empire. Following the fall of the Roman Empire, the Franks conquered the other West Germanic tribes. When the Frankish Empire was divided among Charlemagne's heirs in 843, the eastern part became East Francia. In 962, Otto I became the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, the medieval German state.
In the High Middle Ages, the regional dukes, princes and bishops gained power at the expense of the emperors. Martin Luther led the Protestant Reformation against the Catholic Church after 1517, as the northern states became Protestant, while the southern states remained Catholic. The two parts of the Holy Roman Empire clashed in the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), which was ruinous to the twenty million civilians. 1648 marked the effective end of the Holy Roman Empire and the beginning of the modern nation-state system, with Germany divided into numerous independent states, such as Prussia, Bavaria and Saxony.

Compare and Contrast
Breakfast - cereal consumption used to be huge, but is slowing down. Most working people, being rushed, choose fruit and yogurt smoothies or a breakfast sandwich (with egg, sometimes ham and/or cheese), toast or a bagel, or some kind of commercially packaged cereal bar, granola bar, energy bar, or protein bar or supplement. A "full American breakfast" is usually defined as eggs, some kind of fried potatoes, cereal or toast or pancakes, fruit juice, and coffee. This meal can often be found for around $3.00.
