FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...
Do not be afraid
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope and pray that all of you are well. I know that all of us are praying for our students and families. On behalf of the entire faculty and staff of St. John the Baptist School, I want to thank you for your support, cooperation and encouragement during these very difficult times. We are very blessed to have such a strong community.
I was at school on Monday (perhaps for the last time for quite a while), and I realized how still and silent the building is. It’s not like the stillness of the summertime. I recognized so many of the ordinary things that I missed and often take for granted. I missed saying good morning to our students as the get off their bus; I missed the questions that teachers might have early in the morning. I will admit that I even missed the disciplinary conversation I might have had with a student.
We will be sending a newsletter every Wednesday for as long as we are off. Laura Heidorn is doing a great job working to keep us all connected. The physical distancing that is required of all of us does not have to separate us from the heart of our school community.
In today’s Gospel for the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord (LK 1:26-38), the angel Gabriel comes to Mary to announce to her that she will be the mother of the savior. Mary was “greatly troubled” by the angel’s words. She, like us, does not know what lies ahead for her. The angel says, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
As we continue to face this often frightening challenge, may we hear the angel Gabriel speaking God’s word to us. May we, like Mary, respond with trust and confidence in God’s word. My prayer for all of us is that we may continue to listen for these words Do not be afraid.
Peace,
Dan Minelli

Parish News
St. John the Baptist Church
A portion of a message that Father Pete posted to Facebook a few days ago...
"I know life is weird at the moment and trust me, it will remain that way for a while. It brings be back to the days when I was stationed with the Marines of 2/8 and all Christmas leave was canceled and next thing we know, we are on our way overseas to the sandy part of the world.
This is a time of bonding and not of isolation. Just because we have been ordered to say apart does not mean that we cannot use the gifts of God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit- to draw closer via prayer and acts of charity and kindness.
I pray for each and every one of you at my Daily Mass, said with you at heart, and all I ask is that you do the same for me"
God’s Love and Peace to you all,
Fr. Pete
Father Pete will be using the parish Facebook page to post the daily mass live at 12:30 pm. In addition, he is hoping to post the Stations of the Cross, starting with Station One, and running for 14 days.
