Pedagogy with Petty
Mrs. Williams was talking about "calling out the good stuff" to share with parents. This starts by calling out the good stuff to students. To help you read below:
How Frequently Should I Praise?
There are no easy answers to this, but there are good principles to guide us:
- When someone has acted in a way you want them to repeat
- When someone has done something you want normalized
- When someone has acted in an exemplary way that you want others to aspire to
- When someone who normally behaves well does something extraordinary (like a great act of kindness)
- When someone looks like they need a pick-up, or seems daunted or anxious
None of these principles are the law. Praise can be dangerous too: it can normalize mediocrity if you keep praising actions that are easy to perform. It can, like any currency, be devalued by giving too much of it away It can also be devalued by using praise of excessive heights.

If all goes smoothly, testing will end and students will eat lunch at the end of 3rd block. Students will report to 4th block like normal.
