The Battles
Fort Sumter
This was the first battle of the Civil War. There was 500 Confederate Soldiers and 85 Union Soldiers. No one was killed in the battle. Confederate batteries opened fire on Fort Sumter and continued for 34 hours. Union Capt. Abner Doubleday was afforded the honor of firing the first shot in defense of the fort.

Antietam
There was 87,000 Union Soldiers and 45,000 Confederate Soldiers in this battle. 2,108 Union Soldiers died and 1,546 Confederate Soldiers died. It was the single bloodiest day in American military history. The Union corps mounted a powerful assault on Lee’s left flank that began the battle. Nobody won the battle. It still was one of the worst battles even though there wasn't a winner.

Vicksburg
There was 77,000 Union Soldiers and 33,000 Confederate Soldiers. 806 Union Soldiers died and 805 Confederate Soldiers died. The Union got just 1 more kill than the Confederacy. The Union won this battle. By winning the battle The Union took control over the Mississippi River.

Gettysburg
There was 93,921 Union Soldiers and 71,699 Confederate Soldiers. As many as 51,000 soldiers from both armies were killed, wounded, captured or missing in the three-day battle. There was 3,155 Unions Soldiers that died and 3,903 Confederate Soldiers that died. Four months after the battle, President Lincoln had the dedication ceremony for Gettysburg's Soldiers National Cemetery to honor the fallen Union soldiers to tell the Gettysburg Address. The Union won the battle.

Sherman’s March To The Sea
There was 34,863 Union Soldiers and 40,438 Confederate Soldiers. It is unknown how many soldiers died on both sides. Sherman’s three armies were still separated. They met up in Savannah, Georgia. The Union won the battle of Atlanta. But The Confederacy won Sherman's March To The Sea.

Fort Fisher
There was 9,632 Union Soldiers and 1,900 Confederate Soldiers. There was 1,341 Union Soldiers that died and 583 Confederate Soldiers that died. This battle was fought in North Carolina. On January 13, Union forces landed and prepared an attack on Major General Robert Hoke's infantry line. The Confederacy surrendered. That opened the way to Wilmington, the South's last open seaport on the Atlantic coast.

Appomattox Courthouse
There was 63,285 Union Soldiers and 26,000 Confederate Soldiers. There was 14 Union deaths and unknown Confederate deaths. About 9,000 men under Gordon and Fitzhugh Lee deployed in the fields west of the town before dawn and waited. The attack was led by General Bryan Grimes of North Carolina, was initially successful. The it started to fail. The Union won the battle.
