Creating Safe Spaces
2 Part Course

Target Audience: 6-12 Teachers & Staff
Participants will understand LGBTQ+ basics: Gender pronouns, name changes, basic terminology, and some DASA reg information. Also included are challenges LGBTQ + students encounter such as bullying, body dysmorphia, unacceptance from peers/family members, suicide rate, and other impacts on the student. Finally, we will include a mental health component to help teachers to deal with some of the problems students may bring to them in the safe space and when to reach out for help. We will provide a "mental health first aid kit” to help teachers identify what is serious and needs to be sent to guidance or reported as a mandated reporter.

Learners will: 1) Be able to define Growth Mindset 2) Understand the importance of building a Growth Mindset in our learners 3) Analyze examples of activities aimed at growing Growth Mindset in the 5 different stances (Optimism, Flexibility, Resilience, Persistence, and Empathy) 4) Research/create activities to use with their own students.
Impero in the Classroom
