Happy Memorial Day Weekend Kipling Families,
I hope everyone has some relaxing and enjoyable plans for this weekend. I always view Memorial Day weekend as a positive time to reflect on the growth we have seen over the course of the school year as well as a celebration of the hope and joy that summer brings. Warm weather, BBQs, NOT setting an alarm - all the little, good things that remind us of our happy childhood memories. I hope you have fun creating those happy memories for your own children and your families this summer.
Part of the end of the year excitement here at Kipling is our annual Field Day! Field Day is next week Tuesday. This day will have a lot of energy with it - the kids have been working very hard learning all the events and they are very excited. Thank you to Ms. Walker and Mr. Greenberg for all the preparation you've provided our students. We have been reminding everyone that all the events won't go perfect, their classroom might not win, and that is all OK. Please help us by reminding your kids the most important part of Field Day is to have fun, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and to be a respectful, mindful, and safe competitor. Thank you so much for helping make sure this day is memorable for our students.
All my best to you and your families over the long weekend!
Respectfully,
Mr. Matthew O. Lombardo, NBCT

A Book a Day in May Challenge
During the month of May we are challenging EVERY classroom to read a book a day. The books we are reading have a focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as well as Social Emotional topics. Our goal is to challenge our thinking, see the world through different lenses, understand and appreciate different perspectives and experiences, and strengthen our social emotional skills.
Our district’s core values state the following: “We embrace people of all identities, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, abilities, orientations, education levels, national origins, or any other distinguishing characteristics.” As such, the age-appropriate books we will share with students may feature diverse characters that represent this core value. If you have any questions or would like your child to not participate, please let Mr. Lombardo and/or your teacher know.
We hope that each classroom enjoys reading and discussing some REALLY GREAT books. Thank you, Ms. Thurman, for organizing this fun literacy event for our school this month!

ICYMI: A One-Question Survey On How DPS 109 Is Doing
As part of our mission & vision process, the Deerfield Public Schools District 109 administration established several key performance indicators for the district, which are updated and reviewed at various points throughout the year. One of the newest KPI's, which is being measured for the first time here, is a Net Promoter Score. Simply put, we want to know how satisfied you are with your overall experience with our school district.
Here is a Google Form that will ask you "How likely are you to recommend Deerfield Public Schools District 109 to a friend or colleague?" on a scale of 1 "Very Unlikely" to 10 "Very Likely"
Please rate the district accordingly. There is also an optional space provided where we encourage you to leave feedback about your score so that we can learn and grow from what you share. Your response is anonymous.
