Staff MVP of the Week ~ Mrs. Krissy Sullivan, 1st Grade Teacher
Our staff Most Valuable Player is first grade teacher, Mrs. Krissy Sullivan. Mrs. Sullivan has been teaching for ten years, all years at Brentwood, the first year she taught fifth grade. As a child, Mrs. Sullivan had dreams of becoming a chef. Or a forensic scientist. Or a pediatrician. She attended the University of Indianapolis and majored in Chemistry on a Pre-Med track. She changed her mind during her junior year and switched her major to teaching! She says she has never looked back - and we, here at Brentwood are thankful for that!
Mrs. Sullivan was born in Indianapolis, moved to Denver, Colorado for eight years, then to Kentucky for three years - then back to Indiana! Her family owns a 100 acre farm in Southern Indiana, in Jennings County. "It is a great place to escape and relax!"
*** FUN MRS. SULLIVAN FACT - She moved 3 times her 2nd grade year of school and went to 3 different schools in 3 different states!!!***
Mrs. Sullivan has been married to her husband, Justin, for 2 1/2 years. He is a Kindergarten teacher at Liberty Early Elementary in Decatur Township & he's the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Franklin College. The Sullivans' live in Greenwood. Mrs. Sullivan's parents, Gary & Glorianna, live in southern Indiana on the family farm mentioned above.
Mrs. Sullivan has a younger brother Cody, who is pursuing a teaching degree and is student teaching back home in Jennings County. He is one of the Assistant Coaches for the Boys Basketball team there. Her younger sister Katy, her husband, Andrew and their kiddos--Lakelyn & Tipton live here in Plainfield. Katy is a Kindergarten teacher at Central Elementary School here in Plainfield!
Some of Mrs. Sullivan's Faves:
Color: Yellow
Movie: The Wizard of Oz
TV Show: Grey's Anatomy
Book: Favorite children's book: Over in the Meadow or any Jan Brett books
Music: Country! I love going to concerts w/ family & friends during the summer!
Flower: anything bright & cheery
Restaurant: PF Chang's or Chili's
Candy: anything chocolate
Sports Team: Colts & Pacers
Holiday: Christmas!
Food: brownies
When she isn't working Mrs. Sullivan is the PHS Girls' Soccer Coach, she enjoys running and is currently training for the mini-marathon in May.
What is your signature dish that everyone expects you to bring to the next potluck? Probably either the cream cheese/sausage dip or cream cheese graham cracker dip! "I'd be happy to share the recipes--they aren't a secret!"
Where is the most interesting place you have been? "I loved when we got to visit St. John on our honeymoon. We went snorkeling & zip lining there! They had the most BEAUTIFUL beaches!"
What is something you have never done but would like to? "I would love to travel abroad & I will get to this Spring Break. My husband's soccer team at Franklin College are going overseas to play & watch some professional matches in Scotland & England. I get to go as well, I'm thrilled!!!"
Famous Encounters:
Mrs. Sullivan met Patrick Dempsey formerly from Grey's Anatomy. "I got to meet him and several other celebrities and drivers during my reign as an Indy 500 Princess in 2006!"
When asked for one of her favorite teacher/student memories, Mrs. Sullivan couldn't think of just one! But, one of her favorite things is when former students come back by her classroom to visit. "I love hearing about what they are up to and involved with. I honestly can't remember anything about my 1st grade teacher, so it's my goal that my students don't forget me or the memories we make in our classroom!"
Advice for Parents: "Take time every day to go through your child's folder with them and ask them inquisitive questions about their day---What stumped them? What did they excel at? How did they help someone else, etc. Find ways to keep reading fun & exciting----have them read with a flashlight under the covers, in the empty bathtub with a blanket, to their stuffed animals, etc. Parents & teachers working together can create inspired & passionate learners!"
Before she's off and running - 1 more FUN FACT:
"I've run 7 half-marathons (1 at Disney World) & 1 full-marathon, coached soccer at Cardinal Ritter HS prior to PHS, my husband & I both played soccer at the University of Indianapolis, (That's how we met!)"
Value Student of the Month ~ December
Kindness
Respect for Others' Rights ~ Connor Burress, 4th Grade
Mrs. Shepherd wrote, "I believe Connor exemplifies the value of kindness because we have had several new students at Brentwood start in the middle of the year. Connor has shown kindness to these new students by eating with them at lunch, playing with them at recess, and showing them around Brentwood. Connor has also shown kindness to students who have recently started in the ELL program. Even though there is a language barrier, Connor tries his best to communicate and help. I am proud of the person Connor is and proud to have him represent Brentwood as our ambassador. Way to go Connor!"

- If you need to change your child's dismissal instructions the best way to do this is to send a signed note to your child's teacher.
- If this is impossible please call the office NO LATER THAN 2:30 p.m. to ensure the dismissal change gets to your child's teacher in a timely matter.
