ROCK CREEK PARENT-TEACHER CLUB
THE PTC NEEDS YOU
A note from the PTC President
Happy May! I'm excited to invite you to be part of the PTC Board Elections during our Tuesday, May 11 monthly meeting of the Parent Teacher Club (PTC). As a parent/guardian of a Rock Creek student, you are an included member of the PTC and your vote matters.
Each Board member is a one-year term so all positions are up for re-election. If you have questions about any of the positions and the duties, let us know. We have current PTC Board members running for re-election, some new candidates for positions that will be available, and we have one open position. The Secretary position is open and an excellent way to get involved with the PTC Board!
The Secretary position is our content manager for all of our meeting business discussions and decisions. It is essential that we have a record of each meeting aka meeting minutes (aka taking notes and typing them up) as part of our non-profit standing. The Secretary is a voting position and has the ability to vote and weigh-in on all decisions made regarding budget, activities, and programs provided by the PTC. Let us know if you have a spark of interest or questions regarding the duties, role, time commitment, etc.
Ballot Positions / Candidates
President / Jodi Bean (re-elect)
1st VP / Chanel Sheragy (candidate)
2nd VP / Marianthe Tufts (re-elect)
Secretary / open
Volunteer Coordinator / Michele Simantel (re-elect)
Communications / Erica Johnson (candidate)
Past President / Sharon Zell (not an elected position)
Please join us on Tuesday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. The PTC monthly meeting will be via Zoom and the login information will be sent via email from the school that afternoon. Come vote in the PTC Board Elections, hear about the upcoming dine out nights and 5th grade Send Off plans!
A special thank you to all of our volunteers and Board members for their support of Staff Appreciation Week this week! We appreciate the teachers and staff of Rock Creek Elementary School and hope this week has demonstrated how glad we are for the Rock Creek community.

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Beaverton Safe Routes to School Parent Surveys
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of the program is to make walking and rolling to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be combined with classroom tallies to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses for three weeks starting May 1st.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.

In person hybrid students that are on vacation are not eligible to switch to CDL, they will be marked absent.

ANNUAL PARENT SURVEY
Annual Parent Survey
Please take a few moments to complete the BSD Annual Parent Survey! Our goal is to ensure that every member of our school community feels welcomed, valued, and informed, so it is important for all parents/guardians to complete the survey.

SCHOOL MEALS FOR EVERY IN PERSON HYBRID STUDENT UNLESS YOU OPT OUT
OBOB participants! It is almost May which means books and ice pops! Team parents should forward an email from me with a survey to fill out so I know which book your child wants and how they want to get it! I wish we could also do an ice pop party outside the school, but most likely, it will be outside my house:) Please email me Katieemurry@hotmail.com if you did not receive the email from your team parent with the survey. Surveys have to be filled out by May 8th for OBOB participants to receive a book.
OREGON HEALTH EDUCATION STANDARDS
Oregon Health Education Standards
The Great Body Shop, published by The Children’s Health Market, will be used to teach the Oregon Health Education Standards. It offers skills-based instruction that addresses physical, social, emotional, and mental health. Human Sexuality Education instruction is age appropriate, medically accurate, and relevant for all students.
Erin’s Law (Sexual Abuse Prevention)
An important component of our curriculum is to help children protect their bodies, get support when abuse has occurred, and report to a trusted adult. In accordance with Erin’s Law, we are educating children about sexual abuse and promoting awareness within our communities. The Oregon Department of Education has required all Oregon schools to comply with Erin’s Law. The Erin’s Law lessons address personal safety, touching safety, and assertiveness.
Previewing Materials/Opting Out
The process for previewing materials and opting out of instruction will be slightly different due to the pandemic. Your child’s teacher will be sending communication home prior to instruction in human sexuality and sexual abuse prevention to address this.
Thank you for helping us to make our school a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
