August 2022
Dear Patterson Families,
Welcome back to our 15th school year at Patterson Elementary! We are delighted to welcome back our returning families and extend a warm greeting to our newest PRIDE families. We welcomed back to school 861 students and continue to welcome all in boundary students. I look forward to working with Patterson’s dedicated staff, caring students, and involved parents during the 2022-2023 school year.
We continue to strive to find new and fun learning experiences for our students. To add to our students’ educational opportunities, we are thrilled to continue our 6th grade trip to outdoor science camp in Prescott Pines, and hands-on K-6th exploration field trips. Students will have a blast with making real world connections that directly correlate with their Science and Social Studies curriculum. Thank you for your tax credit donations that allow us to plan these unique opportunities for our students. In addition, we are looking forward to bringing back our grade level "pay it forward" focus with community service projects.
As we start another memorable school year at Patterson, I wish to express how extremely honored I am to serve as Patterson’s Principal. I'm looking forward to learning more about you and your family throughout the school year. I am confident this will be a successful year of working together toward our Patterson mission and vision to build lasting memories for our students. Thank you for your continued support in our educational journey!
Live, Laugh, Learn, Leave a Legacy!
Warmly,
Ms. Stephens
Principal
We are excited to welcome back families to our lunch time!
Beginning September 6th, 2022 families can come on campus for lunch. We are giving some time before families join us so we can get past some high heat days where we utilize the extra cafeteria space, get students in a routine and allowing them to socialize with new friends, as well as ensuring there are no tears when family members leave. Please bring your ID and sign in at the office to get a visitor badge (only adults listed in Infinite Campus will be permitted to eat with your child). We respectful ask that:
-you bring food for your own child only
-leave campus once the class exits the lunchroom unless other arrangements have been prearranged with the teacher
- supervise your other non-school aged children, sit with our child only and no other students).
-eat at the designated family tables in the back of the cafeteria (near the kitchen area).
A Few Reminders
Please be sure to sign in at the front office, have your ID in hand, and wear a name badge or visitor sticker anytime you are on campus. For safety reasons, we ask parents not to bring siblings when volunteering. This is to ensure the safety of all of our students.
Attendance Line
Please be sure to call 480-224-3603 to report your child’s absence. This line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please include:
★ Child’s name and grade
★ Teacher’s name
★ Reason for absence
Very Important Safety Information
Parents, please remind your children who walk, ride bikes or scooters that they are to stay on sidewalk at all times.
Also, please do NOT drop your child off in the parking lot to walk alone to the entrance of the school. If you do come into the parking lot, you must park your car and walk them to the sidewalk.
Your child's safety is a top priority here at Patterson. We appreciate your help.

2022-2023 YEAR OPEN MESSAGE FROM CUSD TRANSPORTATION
This is an important message for families of students who use bus transportation
CUSD drivers have been working hard to rehearse their routes to make sure the school year runs smoothly. The beginning of school is always a challenging season for transportation. Due to the relocation of students, new families to the district, brand new kindergarten students, monsoon weather, and other factors, buses may experience delays. With that in mind, we ask for your patience as we go about our mission of safely transporting students to and from school.
What can I expect during the first weeks of school?
Thousands of kindergarten students are riding a school bus for the very first time. We take extra care with these students, including requiring authorized adults to show ID in order to get them off the bus in the afternoon. Delays are inevitable as everyone becomes accustomed to our process, and as our drivers meet many students and families for the first time. Bus delays may become very lengthy, but these delays should quickly shorten as everyone gets used to the new routine.
We also realize that the first week of school can often be filled with emotional moments and “must get” photo opportunities. Sometimes this will also result in buses being behind schedule.
Will you let me know if the bus is running late?
Our Transportation staff makes every effort to notify schools of significantly late (over 15 minutes) buses. We utilize the district emergency notification system, School Messenger, in the event of extremely significant delays.
Reminders:
· Please be sure that you are set up to receive School Messenger notifications by visiting the School Messenger page on our website. This can be found by navigating to: www.cusd80.com > About Us > Parent and Student Resources > Parent Resources > School Messenger – Emergency Notification System
· Please be sure that your contact information is accurate and up to date in the Infinite Campus parent portal. If incorrect, please contact your child's school to update your contact information.
· You may check your Infinite Campus parent portal for correct bussing information. This can be found by clicking on More > Transportation.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to transport your students safely to and from our campuses.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR MEDIA SPECIALIST
We are so excited for a new year in the Patterson library! We are starting off the school year by reading great books with the theme of character, integrity and being kind. Be watching for information on our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair from August 19-August 26.. A class schedule and volunteer sign up will be coming out in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you at the book fair during parent/teacher conferences.
Important tip: Please remember to keep water bottles away from library books and textbooks. This is the number one reason books get ruined and need to be replaced. If your child receives a book fine for a lost or damaged book, we use the money to purchase library-bound replacements from our library vendor. Library-bound means that the book will withstand hundreds of check outs and rough rides in the back packs. Please do not purchase copies on Amazon and Scholastic as those have a cheaper binding that will only last for a few check outs. Thanks for supporting us as we strive to have the best school library in CUSD!
