Throckmorton County got its name from man named Dr. William E Throckmorton whose son was James W. Throckmorton who lator became Governor of Texas in 1886. The county itself covers 900 sq. miles and has a population of around 2000.
Abilene Zoo
The Abilene Zoo is home to more than 800 animals representing more than 200 species, including elephants, zebras, giraffes and jaguars. The zoo’s Discovery Center boasts comparative habitat displays of fish, invertebrates, and small mammals native to Africa and the U.S. Southwest.

Throckmorton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,641. Its county seat is Throckmorton. The county is named for William Throckmorton, an early Collin County settler. Throckmorton County is one of 22 prohibition, or entirely dry, counties in the state of Texas.
Lake Arrowhead State Park
Lake Arrowhead State Park revolves around one of the most popular lakes in the North Central Plains. Lake Arrowhead offers marvelous fishing, swimming, and boating opportunities, while the surrounding park features a disc golf course, plentiful picnicking and camping spots, and wildlife evocative of a semiarid climate.
