October Edition
Principal's Message
Monthly Message
Dear parents/guardians,
It is hard to believe the second quarter of the school year is almost here! Our students have quickly fallen into a routine and are well on their way to a great school year.
A few important dates are right around the corner. On October 24th & 25th, our third grade students will take their first round of state tests in english language arts. It is always important for students to eat healthy and get plenty of sleep, but this is especially true during state testing. Having them energized and comfortable is a huge factor in their success, so please do all that you can to make sure that your child is present, fed, and well-rested on these very important days. We also have Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 14th & 16th, school pictures, Trunk or Treat and our school Book Fair. All of these dates are listed below!
In closing, never hesitate to communicate with your child's teacher with any questions or concerns. Be sure to download the HLSD Mobile app for quick access to updates regarding school events and more. Feel free to stop by or contact me at 491-8044 if there is anything you need.
Sincerely,
Mr. Rush & Mrs. Seiler
Mrs. Seiler visited Classrooms to read Tiger Days
Classrooms were very respectful and had great conversations surrounding the theme and moral of the book.🐅 They discussed certain feelings, by relating them to animals and shared coping strategies with their friends.
Our Busy Classrooms!
Miss. Jones & Ms. Snyder
Fun Fridays are a way to motivate students to work hard, learn, and practice their goals. Additionally, teachers teach the students that hard work pays off. Fun Friday is a great way for students to learn social skills (how to share, show kindness, listen to each other's opinions, how to play together safely, etc.) as well as participate in engaging hands-on activities. Last week their literacy theme was "Being a Friend" so they worked together to make a Friendship mix!
But wait buses aren't classrooms....
The bus drivers have been giving out Ranger Bucks for good behavior and helpfulness. The transportation department thanks all students who follow the rules and are safe on the bus!
Miss. Kowalski
Miss. Kowalski's class learned about the holiday of Diwali! They made their very own diyas to represent goodness and light!
Ms. Griffiths Computer Helpers
The students have been helping my Kindergarten classes.
From Windle’s class- KJ has been helping every day!!

I am a Leader!
This month we learned the power of showing leadership at home and at school. Encourage your learner to show you all the ways they can be leaders outside of school! View the attached PDF below for ideas!
We also learned about paradigms. We define a paradigm as your point of view or the way you see something. View the resource below to learn more about Leader in Me paradigms and ways to engage your family!
Successful Habits
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw teaches how to take care of ourselves. This includes being grateful. Second grade students created a class gratitude jar where they got to write and share something they were grateful for. Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
