Remembrance Day Assembly
This week at Madonna, we are observing and recognizing the significance of Remembrance Day and the important contributions of Canadian Veterans to the peace of our country today. There are several things happening around the school.
Poppy Coin Drive – Admin will be coming around to classrooms each morning this week to collect coin donations for the Poppy Fund. Each student will be given a poppy to wear on Thursday, November 4th. If you can send your child with a small contribution, that would be much appreciated.
Photo Display of Byng Veterans – In our front foyer, the display case is housing photos of family and community members who have served their country. If you have a photo that you would like to display for our school community, please bring it to the school office. Please ensure it is labeled on the back so we can return it to you.
Remembrance Day Assembly – On Friday, November 4th at 10:45am, we will have our Remembrance Day assembly virtually. This assembly is more formal than our other assemblies.
If your child is a Brownie, Girl Guide, Beaver, Boy Scout or a Cadet please have them wear their uniform to school this day.
This assembly is meant to be a time of reflection and gratitude for the peace that we have in Canada.
Each class is making a wreath of poppies to display on the main bulletin board and we will have a select group of students from each class to lay their wreath at a podium. We will also include a playing of “The Last Post” and a moment of silence in our program.
In addition to these activities, many classes may be reading stories or poems, watching video clips and/or having discussions about the significance of Remembrance Day this week.
Please feel free to ask your children about their thinking and learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your classroom teacher or myself.
Send us Sacrament Pictures
We would love to recognize this special time in their faith journey here at school. We have a Sacraments bulletin board where we post photos of students who have received their sacraments. We are looking for photos of your child celebrating their Sacrament.
If you have a photo of your child receiving their Sacrament we would love to display them here at the school. Please send a digital picture or a photo of your child's sacramental picture.
Please send them to the school with your child and have them brought down to the office or email, Mrs. Gauthier our School Chaplin with a digital photo. kimberleyg@eics.ab.ca OR Mrs. Antoniuk karena@eics.ab.ca .
Thank you so much for your help with this!

Baptism OPENS THE DOOR to the rest of the Sacraments!
Are you wishing to Baptize your school-age child?
Does your child want to receive First Communion with their classmates?
It is never too late!
For the Baptism of infants or very young children, parents make the Baptismal promises on their behalf. OLPH offers our monthly Baptism Preparation Class, required for all parents (and recommended for prospective Godparents also.) For a child age 7 (considered the age of reason) or older, catechesis and preparation of their own is necessary before receiving any of the sacraments, including Baptism.
We are offering a special Baptism Preparation Class for children Age 7-10, so they can be welcomed in Baptism, then join the class to celebrate First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the new year 2022 with their peers.
