We waved good bye to our 5th graders this week as they embarked on a fantastic adventure at La Honda Jones Gulch camp. I am happy to report that they are all doing great! enjoying the great outdoors. The weather felt great as well, and they were already making new friends!

I am planning yo go visit this Wednesday May 11th, if you would like me to take letters with me, please bring them to the office by tomorrow Tuesday May 10th. I will be happy to deliver them.

State testing begins tomorrow May 10th, please make sure that your child gets here on time, gets a good night sleep and a good breakfast. I know our students will do great!

The state test is a very important assessment that will help us determine how to best support our students in the upcoming years, so let's make sure that we do our best on the test! I will also ask you that all medical appointments that you may need to make during the test window are made for the afternoons, once the testing is completed. We will be having a "quiet campus" from 9am until 10:30am each day during the test.

CASSPP State testing will return this year, the window for assessment will be from May 9th -May27th. This test is for English Language Arts and also for Math for all students from 3rd-8th grade. You can find more info on this website.

Here are some tips to help support your children as they take the assessment:

• Take note of the dates for the assessment and bring your children to school daily and on time during those days
• Practice, practice, practice (see the link above for practice questions)
  
• Make sure that your child gets a good night sleep so he/she can do his/her best in the test
• Make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast, either at home, or choose from the healthy items that we offer at Hoover
  
• Talk to your child about the test, ask him/her how he/she did, express interest and stress the importance of doing a great job on the test, without pressure.
  
• Ask the teacher how the test is going, and how you can help at home

Participation on this assessment will provide great data for planning for next academic years, the results are also used to assess the quality of education that children get in Redwood City.

I-Ready

Students in Kinder, first and second grade will be taking the I-Ready assessment during the testing window. So it is also very important that those students be here daily and on time.
