LABOUR UPDATE
Starting on Monday, January 13th, ETFO members will begin Phase 3 of job action. This means that in addition to withdrawing various administrative duties, educators will not participate in extra-curricular activities except for those that are scheduled within the regular school day and educators will not participate in field trips. Extra-curricular activities outside of the school day are cancelled effective January 13, and previously planned field trips are also cancelled.
Our staff will make every effort to reschedule these for a later date if possible and if it is not possible to reschedule then fees will be refunded. Classroom teachers will communicate the specific details about field trips with families. It is important for families to know that there continues to be no impact on student learning and the delivery of the curriculum at this time.
ETFO has also indicated that if the government does not address critical issues by January 17, 2020, ETFO members will begin rotating strikes beginning January 20, 2020. While we have no further information on what this might look like for families in Limestone, it may be prudent for families to begin seeking alternative arrangements for child care should rotating strikes occur. The Board will be given five days notice should strike action take place.
We remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached soon at the central bargaining table between the province, the unions, and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA), which represents public school boards at the provincial table.
How to Report a Student's Absence Using SafeArrival
There are 3 ways to report a student's absence. These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please do not call the school directly to report an absence. If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our new SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow up. If your child will be late, please report them as absent using one of the options below and then, when they arrive at school, they need to check in at the office and their attendance will be changed to LATE.
1. School Messenger App
a) Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app.
b)The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option.
