Dear eLearning Students and Families,
I hope this week's newsletter finds you well. I have been incredibly impressed by how our students have been committing their time to learning this week! Students have been diligently attending Zoom meetings and completing assignments, and we are very proud of the progress we have been seeing.
With that in mind, I am very excited for next week's first opportunity for us to recognize our amazing students and their efforts! As was mentioned during orientation for our students, we will begin our first round of virtual assemblies to acknowledge students that have demonstrated our pillars: perseverance, flexibility, and digital citizenship. We are incredibly excited for this opportunity to personally acknowledge and celebrate students that have gone above and beyond in Englewood eLearning, and we applaud their efforts (and yours) to ensure their success this semester. These virtual assemblies will occur each month. For future reference, we will have additional virtual assembly celebrations during the following weeks:
- Week of 3/1/21
- Week of 4/5/21
- Week of 5/17/21
Students in grades K-6 will have virtual assemblies on Wednesdays of those weeks. Students in grades 7-12 will have virtual assemblies on Fridays. All families of students that were nominated will be invited to virtually attend by our teachers.
We look forward to recognizing the greatness within our community. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Have a wonderful weekend-
Regards,
Paul Whitaker

Learning Preferences Survey
Englewood Schools would like to plan and be responsive to parent and student preferences for next school year. While we are all hopeful that a high percentage of the population will be vaccinated this summer and life can return to a more “normal” cadence, we know that some students have found online learning to be comfortable and beneficial. We would like to gauge interest in continuing to offer this option to those who would like to choose to continue learning online while we navigate through what we hope will be the end stages of the pandemic next year.
Englewood Schools is considering offering an online school for students in grades 7-12 in the 2021-2022 school year. This school would function similarly to our current eLearning program for middle and high school students. We believe that the academic and developmental benefits of in-person learning for students in preschool and elementary school are immense. For that reason, at this time we do not plan to offer an online learning option for these grades. However, we would like to hear from our community about their preferences.
Please complete the survey below so that we can begin our plans for online and in-person options for next school year.
Open Enrollment Starts Soon!
Families must complete the choice enrollment documents into Englewood Schools once they have moved out of the district and as student moves levels. We will share reminders as we get closer to important dates with this process.

5TH & 6TH GRADE PASSPORT PROGRAM
The Passport Program is the best way to get your students on the slopes, but we need your help to spread the word! With 3-4 days of skiing at 21 participating ski areas, the Passport is dedicated to getting Colorado's kids on the slopes.
While weekends and holidays are not available with the Passport this season, we believe the Passport is a great product for your students to enjoy on teacher in-service days and over Spring Break.
We will not be sending out paper mailers this season, so to help us out, we're asking that you forward the following links to your students' families.

SAT for 11th Grade Students
Your 11th grader will be given an opportunity to take the SAT at Englewood High School on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021.
Students who take the SAT have the option to take the with the optional essay. Adding the essay is a student choice that requires students who wish to complete the essay to register for the essay in advance. Registration MUST be completed by the student BEFORE February 16th, 2021. This will be the ONLY opportunity for students who wish to take the optional essay to add it to their April school day test registration.
On April 13th, students should plan on arriving at 8:00 AM and will be able to leave when all students in their testing room complete the exam. Testing times will vary. Students who opt to complete the essay should plan on a four and a half hour test day. Students who qualify for the extended time accommodation and opt to complete the essay should plan on an approximate six hour test day.
Students must request the essay to their registration through their online College Board account or by calling the College Board (866-756-7346). Schools will not receive extra essay materials for test day changes; therefore, please be sure to register your student or have your student register to take the essay before the deadline (2/16/2021).
Additional Information:
o The SAT Essay is scored separately from the SAT. A student’s score on the essay will not improve or reduce their score on the SAT.
o The essay may be required by some colleges and universities. To find out a particular school’s essay policies go to: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/college-essay-policies
o Students taking the SAT with an essay must be tested in a separate room from students taking the SAT without essay. The SAT with essay will take approximately one hour longer than the SAT without essay.
o The optional essay is only offered as part of the 11th grade SAT.
o There is a short webinar on what the essay measures, how students can register, and how educators can monitor registrations The webinar password is Spring2@2!.
Please, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Upcoming School Fundraising Opportunities
The first fundraiser will be taking place on January 24th at Woody's Wings. See below for more information. Thank you!
Are you ready for some football and WINGS !
Our next Spirit Event will be held through Woody's Wings 3, a locally owned and operated new wing spot located right here in Englewood. While wings are a personal thing, in my opinion, these are the best around, especially if you like them hot.
Just in time for the NFL Divisional Playoffs, simply mention Charles Hay, and 10% of all orders placed on Sunday, January 24th, will be donated to the CHWS PTSA. They have limited seating on site, but offer take-out via phone and online ordering. When ordering online put Charles Hay in the "Special requests" on the right-hand side.
