PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
I trust you all had some quality family time over the past two weeks. It is certainly going to be an interersting period as we move forward. You will have no doubt seen the correspondence from the school last Friday about the mandated conditions for both staff and helpers in schools. I can say with confidence that all our staff have been vaccinated meaning we will not have any personnel who are ineligble to work from 2022. A reminder that the only health related change we have been notifed of is that adults needing to come on site must wear a mask. The health preference at level 2 is still that parents drop and run.
Mrs Brenda O'Loughlin (Mrs O) has handed in her resignation effective from the end of this term. Mrs O has been at HNP for approximately 25 years and has made a real difference to the lives of many. Whilst we are losing Brenda as a fulltime teacher, it is highly likely that she will work in the school in a part time capacity next year.
This week we welcome the following new students Charlotte Coltart, Ihaia Robinson, Aristotle Crawford, Harrison Godbold, Lize and Liam Boshoff. It is great having you here at HNP. We also welcome Mrs Sue Dunn & Mrs Erica Cranswick who will take over the teaching of Room 12 this term.
We have two short weeks ahead of us with both this Friday (Hawke's Bay Anniversary) and Monday (Labour Day) being holidays.
Due to the Covid outbreak and the uncertainty surrounding the planning of events, Blast in the Park (BIP) has been cancelled this year. I know that Steve Gregory and his wonderful organising team are disappointed at having to make this call, but in reality it was the only option. A huge thank you to the BIP team for your hard work.
Due to us being a school bubble, the Sports Park has informed us that they are happy to host our Year 4-6 Athletics. If the Alert levels are still at Level 2, only those parents who are assisting us on the day will be allowed on site. We will take plenty of photos to share on our Facebook page.
HNPS Enviro Schools Survey- 2021
As we navigate our way forward as a school from Bronze to Silver Enviro status we would love to know how you feel we are going on our sustainability journey at HNPS, what more you would like to see, and how you could help to make these initiatives happen.
Please complete this short survey to help us with our next steps. https://forms.gle/eFfXD2xSUSL2z95ZA
Have a great extended weekend everyone.

PEAK TRAIL BLAZER – 21st November
It’s great to see lots of our HNPS kids wearing the new Peak Trail Blazer T-shirt. Jonty Rose’s awesome winning slogan “Kind is Cool” is making its way all around Hawke’s Bay. The children were all very excited to receive their t-shirts yesterday, which was fantastic to see. Since there has been such high demand for t-shirts, the PTB team is putting in another order. So if you would still like to order a t-shirt there is another chance. You can purchase online at https://eventplus.net/PTB21
Entries for the Tainui Trail have now SOLD OUT. If you have missed out, you can email the Peak Trail Blazer Team to go on the waiting list. There is often movement nearer the time, so there is a chance you will still get a spot peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz
CANCELLED: 2021 StockCo Blast In the Park
Due to the current COVID -19 environment, the StockCo Blast in the Park Committee, supported by Nick Reed & the Havelock North Primary Board, has made the call to cancel StockCo Blast in The Park for 2021.
It is the first time in 16 years that the event, which is central to the annual fundraising for Havelock North Primary, hasn't happened.
However, the safety of our school and our community is paramount to the decision.
The Committee has worked hard to find different approaches to move ahead with, but the reality is that we can't run a 3500+ person event while managing COVID-19 Level 2 Restrictions.
A huge shame, but the right decision.
We are grateful to our longstanding, and new, sponsors we had locked in for this year: StockCo Strategic Agrifinance, NZME/89.5FM, TUMU, Dish Catering, WeeDooLoos, Emmerson Transport Ltd, Sight & Sound, Havelock North Tyre & Alignment, Gilmours Pharmacy, All Women Gynaecology & Obstetrics Brands.co.nz, Sacked Kiwi Employment Law Specialists, Mill Electrical,
and of course to Te Rangi our Fireworks Specialist.
We very much hope to see you all next year - Friday 4th of November 2022…pop it in your diary.
Tena koutou e te iwi.
Thank you all.
Steve Gregory & the Blast in the Park Committee.

Year 6 Interviews
We are very sad to share that the Year 6 interviews will not go ahead as planned next week. We are disappointed as we really enjoy meeting our incoming students and their families and gathering important information. However, we have considered our obligations re COVID19 protocols and do not feel we can bring over three hundred people into our school as would be the case if the interviews were to go ahead.
Please check your emails as we have included a survey that asks the questions that guide us in the interviews and also asks if you wish to enrol in music tuition for 2022. Please complete the survey and send it back to us as soon as possible.
Should the alert levels change, we will look to host a drop-in day for the year 6s. In the meantime, the tech tasters will continue as the students are coming in with the existing bubble of their own school.
New Principal at HNI
We are delighted to share that our DP, Nigel Messervy, has just won the principal's position commencing in 2022.

Term 4 school Sport registrations are CLOSED
We have a record number of registrations across the Sports offered in Term 4 - approximately 400! It is absolutely fabulous to have so many children out there enjoying sport, making friends, refining and developing new skills and practising their STAC (Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Attitude and Coach-ability).
With such high registrations comes the need for volunteers to coach and manage the teams. The role of Manager is easy - basically it is just communicating times / places of games each week. We understand the idea of putting your hand up to coach can be a bit daunting, but we are here to support you in any way we can. You can also invite older siblings and extended family members to help out. We will be holding a Coaches information evening on Tuesday 26th October, at school. More info will be sent out around this. If we don't have coaches, the teams will not be able to operate.

HNP Enviro Corner Week 1 Term 4
This year all students within the Mahuri team have embodied the responsibilities of kaitiaki. In differing ways they have looked to protect and care for our environment. Therefore becoming Kaitakitanga. A group of students within Rooms 24 and 25 developed a garden concept behind Rooms 5, 6 and 7. They presented this concept to Mr Reed, who was super impressed. Five trees were donated to the group from Te Uru Rākau, New Zealand Forest Services. The group planted these beside Room 5, with the hope that other year groups will take on their concept and develop it in the future.
At school, the Enviro group have been creating a vision map around sustainability. They have been thinking about what the sustainable future will look like at HNP. Our work prompted a special mention in the HB Enviroschools Newsletter.
