FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT
Final Issue for 22-23
So long 8th grade students and 8th grade families and thank you for supporting our schools and your children. Keep D34 in your thoughts; we will be counting on your continued support. Finally, we will be rooting for the success of our 8th grade students in their future journeys at high school and beyond!
Enjoy the celebration pictures in this final issue.
6th grade Science Teacher: Titan Team
Sponsor: (this year) Art Club, (past years) Diversity Club and Science Olympiad
I am truly blessed and have enjoyed a rich life filled with new and old friends, colleagues, and lots of family. My husband of 35 years and I have two wonderful sons. Tim, who is a chemist and Jake, who is a lawyer. We have lived here in Antioch for 30+ years and enjoy gardening, traveling, and painting old furniture. We love the small town atmosphere that Antioch has to offer and frequently walk uptown to shop and enjoy dining out.
I graduated from Mennonite College of Nursing in 1987 and worked as a hospital nurse for many years before returning to school for my teaching certificate and then later a Master's in Science Education. I joined the D34 team in 2003 as a 6th grade science teacher and have LOVED every minute of teaching!
Why I am a Teacher
I am a teacher because I want to inspire others to learn about the natural world around them. I have always been fascinated with all things science and have always wanted to share my passion with others. I am tickled pink to see my former students go into the science fields and share with me how I helped fuel that passion in them and inspired their dreams. Since I'm retiring this year, I'd like to hear from any former students and what they're doing now! Here's my email: firstname.lastname@example.org ❤️ for anyone who wants to reach-out.
D34 - THANKS FOR MANY GREAT YEARS AND I'LL MISS ALL OF YOU!!!

Attention: INCOMING KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES!
We encourage our families to register their students by June 1st so they can participate in our Popsicles with the Principals event and have an opportunity to meet their new classmates and families and climb aboard a D34 school bus. Families will have an opportunity to learn more about the Boosters parent organization and Champions before and after-school child care program. Don't miss out on this fun opportunity! If you know someone with incoming kindergartners, please let them know. We look forward to meeting our newest students on June 15th!
Early Learning Center Student Celebrations
The Early Learning Center Students capped off the end of the year with a remarkable concert that wowed the audience!
Early Start (Birth to Three) Program Park & Play
The MKM Early Learning Center Early Start program hosted their end-of-the-year Park & Play event for families at Hastings Lake Forest Preserve. Families participated in activities, enjoyed snacks and had a great time socializing and playing on the playground.
Oakland History Fair
Oakland Elementary School's annual History Fair was a blast from the past! 5th graders showcased their historical research projects, which included costumes, student-made movies and hands-on projects. Amazing work, Eagles!
HIllcrest math students designed math games that tested their strategies and skills.
Helping our Pets
Mrs. Dati's class created an action plan to support pets in need. They held a pet donation drive and created pet beds with the help of some 5th grade buddies. They were very excited to share these supplies with Crede's Cause Animal Rescue.
Our elementary schools held a 'Battle of the Books' contest to inspire students to read and discuss their work. See some of the participant teams below!
Never Underestimate the Power of a Girl with a Book
After a long week of pampering the staff for Staff Appreciation, the Hillcrest Boosters threw an awesome Family Luau, complete with a Hawaiian photo station, games and crafts, beach balls, limbo, great music, and an ice cream truck! The Hillcrest staff is grateful for the Hurricane Boosters and all of their efforts.
Author Visits ELC
The ELC hosted local author, John Bray. John read his book, The End, to the students and then led the students in an art activity. Each student at the ELC also received a signed copy of the book to enjoy at home with their families.
