Meet the people of Cuba and learn about art from the Americas and the World!

The week will be devoted to meeting and sharing ideas with Cuban artists, curators and the everyday people of Havana. The contemporary art of Cuba, Latin America, Asia and Africa will be fully displayed throughout the city, making this curated event the only place on the Globe where you can see all of this work together in one place. For American art experts and aficionados alike, the Havana Bienal is a good way to stay in touch with developments in the visual arts of these regions.

What is People to People Travel?

In 2012 US President Obama reinstated People to People educational travel, which allows Americans to travel to Cuba, via a Specific License, issued by the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC). All programs under this License, issued to Talk Cinema, Inc. and include a full time schedule of educational exchange activities designed to promote meaningful interactions between Americans and the people of Cuba. People to People travel is not tourist oriented or self directed but it is both rewarding and unique. It allows participants to visit a wide scope of organizations, institutions, and community projects that provide a deeper understanding of Cuba, its people and its culture.

Special services for art collectors!

The US Treasury law allows American art collectors to purchase art in Cuba within OFAC’s allowance for the gathering of “informational materials” in Cuba (§§ 515.206(a) and 515.332). This rule allows collectors of visual arts, photography, media arts, and other art products, (as well as music, literature etc.) to purchase art in Cuba and to bring it into the United States. Because there are limitations on how much cash you can carry into Cuba ($5,000), often this is not enough to purchase important works of art. As a special service to qualified collectors we will work with the artist and any qualified collector to allow them to pay a down payment on a work, carry the work with them to the US and, after that, pay the artist the balance owed. This is further facilitated through bank accounts that most Cuban artists hold outside of Cuba.
