What's Happening Woodward
1/9/22
Happy New Year!
I hope 2022 is off to a good start for you and your family. I know for many of us, the holiday break and our first week back together were impacted by COVID. As a school community, we must remain vigilant and continue to do our part to minimize the spread. Please, read on for important information from the district regarding weekly pooled testing and what to do if your child displays symptoms.
Please, enjoy the great work of our students, showcased below. You'll see narrative writing from grade 3, radial symmetry from grade 3, and gingerbread glyphs from grade 2.
A message from the district
The Omicron variant is far more contagious and is having an impact on our learning organization. The District’s goal is to remain open safely, as the data supporting the negative impact of remote learning on students’ health and wellness is compelling. To help achieve this goal, I ask families to:
- Keep your child(ren) home from school if they are symptomatic. Oftentimes people think, “It’s just a cold. I get a dry cough every winter. or It’s just my allergies.” Please be vigilant and complete the Daily Self Screening Checklist. Please stay home, even if you have mild symptoms, and notify the school nurse;
- Participate in weekly pooled screening (First day of each school week), and;
- Ensure your child(ren) are wearing a high-quality mask: We recommend that students and staff wear well-fitted, multi-layer masks or double masks for added protection.
Weekly COVID Safety Checks (Pooled Testing) Update
Thank you to those who are participating in the weekly pooled Covid safety checks (pooled testing). If you would like to participate and have not yet registered, please complete the consent form. Kits will now be sent home every Friday and are due back to school on Monday morning.
A few things to remember when participating:
You must write the student’s Full Name and DOB on the test tube each week.
(If there is no name or DOB written on the test tube, then that sample will not be processed)
You must register the sample each week
(If you do not register the sample by scanning the QR code and completing the questions, then the sample will not be processed.)
You must submit the sample to the school by 9:00 am on Monday
(If you or your student drops off a sample after that time or on another day, then the sample will not be processed. Please have your student complete the sample and register the sample at home each week.
You will not receive email notifications of test results unless your sample is in a positive pool.
Directions for completing and registering a sample can be found at Covid Testing Instructions.
