Different types of Energy
Come learn what is in store for you
Kinetic Energy
Kinetic Energy-the energy of an object that is due to the object's motion; so when you or something is moving you have kinetic energy. To find the objects kinetic energy (you take mass and the objects speed then you take that to the 2nd power divided by 2.)
In that equation the M stands for mass of the object in kilograms and the V stands for the objects speed
Potential Energy
Potential Energy-the energy that an object has because of the position, shape, or condition of the object.( how to calculate potential energy) You take mass times acceleration of gravity times height. An example of this is a bow and arrow because before you pull it back the strings have potential energy.
Mechanical Energy
Mechanical Energy-the amount of work an object can do because of the object's kinetic and potential energies. (mechanical energy=potential energy+ kinetic energy) it is also the total energy of motion and position of an object. An example of this is a weight lifter because he is working to lift the weights.
Thermal Energy
All matter is made of particles that are always in random motion. Because the particles are in motion, they have kinetic energy. Thermal Energy is all of the kinetic energy due to random motion of the particles that make up an object. The faster the particles move, the greater their kinetic energy and the greater the object's thermal energy. An example of this kind of energy is a heater because when it turns on the machine makes heat and that is why it is thermal energy.
Chemical Energy
Did you know that there was chemical energy in the food you eat. Chemical Energy- is the energy of a compound that changes as its atoms are rearranged. Chemical energy is also a form of potential energy because it depends on the position and arrangement of the atoms in the compound. An example of chemical energy is a battery because it has acid in it and acid is a chemical and the battery acid is the thing that lets different things get energy from it.
Electrical Energy
This is energy that comes out of an outlet and that is an example of what I use everyday. But the real definition is energy of moving electrons.
