Your Cougar Tennis team began the day yesterday at the Springtown tournament with some tough (and unexpected) losses, but ended with some hard-fought victories. All of your tennis cougars played well and it was a good way to close out the regular Spring season. Be sure to especially congratulate Alejandra Mares Martinez for winning silver in girls singles, Aryaman Patel & Orlando Renovato for winning silver in boys doubles, and Jose Mendieta for winning bronze in boys singles. And though they came up just shy of the medal podium, also congratulate Erik Serrato for just barely missing the bronze medal in boys singles in a match that went into a tie-breaker and Jesus Alvizo & Leslie Gutierrez for just barely missing the bronze medal in mixed doubles in a match that closed out the entire tournament in a heartbreaking 5-7 score. Also, Leonel Munoz and Roberto Torres Rodriguez in the “Almost” category. They also made it to a podium match in boys doubles, just barely missing 3rd place. Congratulate them as well!
Now our eyes are set on Districts next Tuesday, March 28. Encourage every tennis cougar you see as they prepare for this big tournament!
FWISD Track & Field
Benbrook HS
Your Lady Cat Track and Field team competed in the Porcupine Relays in Springtown yesterday. We had countless PRs yesterday. Breezy Butler set a new school record in the Triple Jump with a distance of 37’ 4 ¾”. She also set a new school record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.38. Carley Couch set a new school record in both the 2 mile and 1 mile, with times of 12:29.24 and 5:51.40. Everyone competed well in the meet. The Varsity girls brought home the Team Championship! Really proud of the Varsity and JV girls.
South Hills HS
Coach Dailey began the Scorpion Relays 24 years ago. It has been a highly competitive meet that began at South Hills and moved to Clark Field and had as many as 24 teams on any given year. After Covid, and having such small numbers around the area in track and field we decided to bring it back on campus 3 years ago. Bringing it back where it all began is a pretty cool thing. South Hills Track runs deep in our hearts as coaches and our kids love being a part of our Track and Field tradition.
Jayda Stevenson over 5 feet at the High Jump.

We the athletic department would like to show our appreciation to our athletics trainers for the impact they have on the safety and wellbeing of our student-athletes. Not only are they available for us athletes, they make themselves available for our entire school and FWISD. They have our backs at all times. We want to thank them for their valuable training and expertise . With their wisdom, I have observed them make rehabilitation and treatment a fun and personable experience.
We appreciate all that they do no matter how big or small 🙌🏼the treatment is.

I wanted to share with you all and send a huge THANK YOU to Coach Nancy Wendell, Western Hills Head Swimming and Diving coach. She purchased 3 new water pumpers that are primarily used by football, soccer and track. Swimming very rarely does dry land conditioning here at school to be in need of using them to stay hydrated. However, her sense of community and helping everyone succeed and be safe meant she didn't hesitate to offer to purchase these units. There was no possible way we could have purchased them from our budget to replace the ones we have been nursing along for about 12 years.
The Western Hills Athletic Training staff, along with all the coaches and athletes that will use them for many years to come, want to say THANK YOU to Coach Wendell. When you see her, please sing her praises for showing that WE ARE WESTERN HILLS.
