Welcome Back to Jackson Elementary
2020-2021 School Year
Dear Jackson Parents/Guardians,
This year will be different than last year when we were forced into Distance Learning on a minute's notice. Teachers have already begun working on creating lessons, both live and online that will help keep our students engaged. Students should plan on having normal school hours starting at 8:00am with a live morning meeting. Throughout the day, students will complete online lessons, as well as checking in with their classroom teacher for live lessons, specials lessons, and assignments.
Please read below for more information. If you continue to have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the front office or contact me directly. (Contact information below.)
Remote Learning
Students will engage with their classroom teacher, interventionists, specials teachers, etc. both live and through recorded assignments throughout the day. Your child's classroom teacher will be your main point of contact, but feel free to reach out to any of the staff members with questions you may have. We will begin Remote Learning on August 24th at 8:00am.
Teachers will set up two opportunities for parents to meet on WebEx (virtually) as a modified Open House. There you will be able to talk to your child's teacher, hear expectations to start the school year, ask any questions you may have, etc. Parents will be notified of these meetings once they are scheduled.
Attendance during Remote Learning
Attendance is mandatory, Monday-Friday, according to the District 11 calendar starting August 24th. Teachers will be taking attendance in the morning and afternoon, each day. If your child is unable to "attend" Remote Learning, you will need to call in their absence to the Attendance Line 719-328-5813.
LAB Days (Learning at Building)
Students identified in special programs (ie. English as a Second Language, Speech/Language, Special Education, READ Act, and Response to Intervention) will be invited to participate in person on LAB days (Learning at Building) on either Tuesdays OR Thursdays, depending on the need from 8:00am-11:30am. Parents will be contacted directly if their child is identified in one of these subgroups.
Schedules
Classroom teachers will share daily schedules during technology distribution (August 19-20).
Breakfast/Lunch
ALL District 11 students will be able to continue to receive lunch through the District 11 Lunch program in front of the school, Monday-Friday (start date to be determined).
Students who are a part of the Remote Learning-in-School program (LAB days), will receive breakfast in the classroom and lunch in the cafeteria each day before returning home.
Buses
If your child qualifies for in-person learning (LAB Days) AND transportation, you will be notified before August 24th (for a start date of September 1 or 3).
Masks
When present on campus and/or in the building, all students, staff, and visitors MUST wear a mask at all times. In addition, please remember to follow social distancing protocols.
Assessment Schedule
We will let you know when we have determined the schedule for assessments (after Labor Day).
Technology Distribution
Your teacher will be calling you starting on Friday, August 14th to set up a time for you to come to Jackson on either Wednesday, August 19th or Thursday, August 20th to pick up technology and supplies. Please make sure to schedule with them when you can come in. Read below for more information.
I cannot even begin to tell you how happy we are to be able to have our Jackson community back together again, although not as close to each other as we had hoped. Please know we are here to support you and your family in any way we can. Call the office at (719) 328-5800, your classroom teacher, or me (719) 328-5802, if you have any questions!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Thank you,
Sara Miller
