ICTM Webinar Series

3 Part Webinar Series with Dr. David Costello

Supporting Mathematical Instruction and Learning Across the Three Back-to-School Options

We know that the 2020-2021 school year may look different. Currently, there are three options being discussed: face-to-face, blended, and online. Given this uncertainty, Dr. David Costello has crafted three sessions that will support teachers in planning meaningful instruction that will support student understanding of mathematical concepts in any of the possible learning formats. See unique zoom information for each session below.

Tuesday, August 11, 4-5pm Eastern Time

Session 1 - Planning for the Options

Within this session, participants will consider how to narrow the focus when planning instruction, how to teach from the perspective of misconceptions, the importance of practice, and strategies for supporting families as families support students. The session will provide examples of strategies to support the models of instruction and learning currently being discussed for our return to school.

Wednesday, August 12, 4-5pm Eastern Time

Session 2 - Schedule and Delivery Approach to Instruction and Learning

Within this session, participants will examine aspects of communication, with both students and families, options for scheduling and delivering lessons, distinctions between synchronous and asynchronous learning, and how to balance instruction so that students have a learning environment that supports learning. The session will provide examples of strategies to support communication and instructional approaches to meet the needs of our diverse learners.

Thursday, August 13, 4-5pm Eastern Time

Session 3 - Working Through Stumbling Blocks and Questions to Achieve the Goal

Within this session, participants will explore stumbling blocks associated with the three models of instruction being discussed for the Fall and how to overcome such adversity. Topics such as equity, teacher fatigue/burn-out, Social-Emotional Learning, and assessment will be discussed with consideration given to strategies to overcome questions associated with these areas of interest.

During these online sessions David will explore effective and efficient strategies that can be applied manageably by all those involved.
