October 5, 2018
Colts,
For a short school week, we had a packed one. Personally, I am a big believer in being intentional with purposeful rest to recover the mind and body. Our staff and students have been very hard at work in the classroom, and the short weeks and longer weekends are always welcomed. I hope all of our Colts get an opportunity to rest and enjoy the long weekend! We will see our students on Tuesday.

Lone Star State School Counselor Association Bronze Winner
In 2016, The Lone Star State School Counselor Association (LSSSCA) developed a progressive awards system that includes three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Each level is met with increased levels of rigor designed to elevate school counselor programs to national recognition through The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) awards. Schools receiving the LSSSCA Bronze, Silver or Gold award demonstrated outstanding comprehensive counseling programs that were data-driven, focused on goal completion and aligned to the ASCA National Model.
The LSSSCA Award System evaluates school counseling programs in the following 12 areas: Belief Statement, Vision Statement, Mission Statement, Program Goals, Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success, Annual Agreement, Advisory Council, Calendars, School Counseling Core Curriculum Action Plan and Lesson Plans, School Counseling Core Curriculum Results Report, Small-Group Responsive Services, Closing-the-Gap Results Report, Program Evaluation Reflection and Social Emotional Learning. Each application packet was judged according to a rubric that is aligned to the national RAMP award.
Congratulations to Colleyville Middle School for being named a Lone Star State School Counselor Association Bronze Winner for the 2018 school year.

8TH GRADE FOUR YEAR PLANNING (ALSO GOOD FUTURE INFO. FOR ALL)
The counselors sent out communication through Skyward on Friday, September 28th about Four Year Planning and Endorsements. If you did not receive this communication, or you have questions, please contact your student's counselor. This past week,, the 8th Grade English teachers presented a video from the counseling department about 4 year planning (see link below). In the coming weeks, counselors will begin meeting with every 8th grade student individually to start a four year plan and choose an endorsement. These individual meetings will go through the end of the 1st semester. Remember, this plan is a working document in Skyward that can be changed this year and in high school. Plus, when the high school counselors come to visit with our students in the 2nd semester, students will revisit their plans and endorsement choices to make any changes. Four year planning and choosing an endorsement is going to be a focus for this school year, and we want our students and parents to feel good about their choices for high school. Please see the links for the video below and for the 9th grade course sheet. All of this information is available through your student's Google 8th Grade Guidance Classroom and more information can be found by clicking on the links below:
