Lincoln Monthly Newsletter

September 2018

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK.......................................................................Mr. Steve Brady

What an amazing start to the school year. We were so excited to welcome the eager faces of the students as they came through the doors again. We missed them! Everyone seems to have settled into a routine already!

Included in this first newsletter is information pertaining to building policies and procedures. Please look these over and don’t hesitate to contact the office or email me if you have questions.

Lincoln is a fabulous place to learn and our entire school community and staff are here to support your child(ren). Together we will make it a wonderful year.

Again, welcome back… Looking forward to an outstanding 2018/2019 school year!

PARKING LOT GUIDELINES

This is a reminder that parking along the circle driveway in front of the school is illegal! The driveway is a fire lane. The Wadsworth Police have ticketed cars illegally parked there in the past.

To keep our students safe, we ask that you please follow these guidelines when bringing your child to school or picking him/her up.

  • When dropping off and picking up your students, please do so only from the lane closest to the school building. We do not want students to cross in between the cars.
  • If you are walking your child to/from your vehicle, please cross at the designated spots.
  • Students must always cross the circle drive with an adult. Students cannot cross on their own.
  • When you arrive to pick up, please pull all the way up to the empty spots. This will alleviate a back up on Lyman St.
  • Cars cannot be left unattended in the drive. This is a fire lane and someone must remain in the vehicle. If you need to come in or walk your child to the playground, please park in the parking lot.
  • Students riding their bikes should walk these to the bike racks once on school property. For the safety of everyone, no bikes should be ridden on school sidewalks.

Thank you for your support!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER.................................................................Mrs. Nikki Farson

Hello Lincoln Families!

We are off to another amazing start of the year here at Lincoln! I have been able to visit all the classrooms to say hello and talk about how we can show kindness to others. We read The Jelly Donut Difference - Sharing Kindness with the World. The next lesson I will present to your student will be the Character Trait of the Month, which is RESPECT! We had a school-wide assembly presented by Mr. Brady and the teachers to demonstrate what it means to be respectful. Great examples of respect were shared by your students, so keep up the great work, Parents! :)

Take care of each other!

Mrs. Farson

ATTENDANCE

Some important notes about your child's attendance:

  • If your child is ill, will be absent, or coming in late from an appointment, please call our attendance line at (330) 335-1461. Please state your child's full name, the reason for the absence, their teacher's name, and the name of the person who is calling in.
  • If you are planning a vacation, our school policy requires a prior notice for Mr. Brady to approve as an excused absence. Please remember that good attendance is highly correlated with school success.
  • Some District policies have changed with new updates in State Law. Please review this district brochure for specific information and changes from past practice.
  • If your child is tardy or is leaving early, he/she must be signed in/out by you or the accompanying adult in the office.

MEDICATION FORMS

Any medication that is a prescription that is distributed at school must have an RX form signed by the doctor as well as the parent. The drug must be received by the school in the container in which it was dispensed by the prescriber or licensed pharmacist. (Please see the medication policy for more details)

Over the counter medication (ex. Cough drops/aspirin, etc.) must be supplied by the parent/guardian in the original container. The OTC form must be signed by the parent/guardian for the medication to be administered. We can only accept unopened packages of medication.

The Wadsworth Board of Education has a policy which governs the administration of both prescribed and over-the-counter medications. NO MEDICATIONS will be permitted without completion of these forms. Medication must be dropped off by a parent/guardian and not brought by a student to school.

Medication forms are available in the school office or on-line at www.wadsworth.k12.oh.us Go to Parent information; District forms/ Medical forms.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION POLICY

At Lincoln, we have a “treat free” birthday policy. In conjunction with our wellness policy and various allergies, we celebrate birthdays with non-food items. Students may bring in small items for their classmates or celebrate their birthday by donating a book to the classroom library or classroom. Books will be identified with the student’s name and birthdate and shared with the class. In addition, student names are announced in the morning and they receive a birthday pencil from the office. We appreciate your cooperation with this policy.
