GaTAPP Literacy Efforts - Teaching of Reading and Writing, Early Literacy 1 & 2, & Foundations of Reading 1 & 2

Growing Readers
To support teachers in increasing the number of children reading at grade level, SWRESA has providing training and coaching support to hundreds of teachers and leaders through the Growing Readers Process with over 140 participating in the last 3 years.
FY 22 - 42 teachers, 3 instructional coaches, 5 district leaders, 10 school leaders

Reading Endorsement
Over 50 teachers have earned a Reading Endorsement with SWRESA since its inception in 2017. This past year, SWRESA partnered with CFRESA to revamp and align the endorsement with the expectations of HB 528 and the GaPSC Foundations of Reading Rule 505-3.03.

Dyslexia Endorsement
To ensure students success, SWRESA will begin offering the Dyslexia Endorsement during FY 25. This endorsement will ensure educators meet HB 528 expectation as well.

LETRS
SWRESA began facilitating LETRS training during FY 23 which provides a professional learning course of study based in the science of reading for elementary educators and meets the requirements of HB 538. Since its inception at SWRESA, hundreds of teachers and leaders have been trained:
FY 23 - 80 teachers, 25 leaders
FY 24 - 160 teachers, 25 leaders

The REI funding has ended, however during the funding period local state trainers were certified to enable to the continuation of LETRS reducing the cost per teacher by ~ 2/3s to increase affordability and participation.

Orton Gillingham
SWRESA began facilitating Orton Gillingham training during FY 23. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia.

Wilson Reading
SWRESA began facilitating Wilson Reading training during FY 23. Wilson Reading System® (WRS) effectively develops the reading skills of struggling readers, including individuals with a language-based learning disability.

SWRESA ELA Standards Overview Professional Learning Workshops
SWRESA ELA Specialists will be facilitating 2 ELA Standards Overview Workshops to support teachers with the adoption and implementation of the new standards.
June 25th & July 10th 2024.
GaDOE ELA Standards Overview Professional Learning Workshops
SWRESA will host and help facilitate 4 ELA Standards Overview Workshops conducted by GaDOE consultants to support teachers with adoption and implementation of the new standards.
Dec 4th & 5th and Feb 3rd & 4th.
Cox Campus/GA Literacy Academy Modules Support Professional Learning Workshops
SWRESA ELA Specialists will develop and provide 3-4 full-day sessions to support the Cox Campus/GA Literacy Academy Modules to equip teachers in our systems to meet the HB 538 requirements. Teachers will complete 2-3 modules online prior to attending the face-to-face sessions at SWRESA. The sessions will then focus on the implementation of what was learned in the modules with opportunities for participants to share and collaborate.
