SCC CAPS Healthcare Happenings...
SCC CAPS Healthcare has been rounding out the Professional Skills Bootcamp with the mock interview day and Parent/Associate Conferences. There have been several very interesting guest speakers, awe-inspiring site visits, and rotations!
Thank you to those of you that attended the associate-led conferences and participated in the interview day. We hope you enjoyed the experience if you were able to participate.
Site Visits and Guest Speakers
Washington Institute for Surgical Education Site Visit
Associates were able to experience procedures such as endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, and the surgical robot Di Vinci on the same equipment medical students use to practice surgery skills.
Deep Brain Stimulation Presentation
Rich from Boston Scientific described the process of Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's patients.
Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital Site Visit
Associates interested in pediatrics learned about the history of Ranken Jordan and were able to hear from a nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and a speech therapist.
Operating Room Preparation
BJC nurse educator explained what to do and what to not to do while in the operating room.
C.R.U.S.H. Presentation
St. Charles County Ambulance District Paramedics describe the opioid epidemic in St. Charles County and the program C.R.U.S.H. that is a collective effort to combat the issue.
Missouri Job Center Interview Tips
Missouri Job Center provided some last minute tips on interviewing, days before the mock interview day.
BJC Occupational Health Fair
Associates attended the BJC occupational health fair to get their flu shots and learned about how health care providers take care of themselves.
WISE - Endoscopy
Associates practicing using a colonoscopy and endoscopy simulator.

SSM Cardiology Presentation
Associates learned about the cardiac cath lab. This associate is holding a stent.
OR Preparation
Proper etiquette in the operating room.
Learning proper PPE
Practice using personal protective equipment that will be needed when watching a surgery.

Associates Rachel Fernandez and Delaney Shuffett have both been accepted to an interdisciplinary team for MEDLaunch. MEDLaunch is a non-profit, biomedical and entrepreneurship incubator partnering with St. Louis University and other organizations in the St. Louis area. This is an amazing opportunity for the associates to be innovative and learn from a wide array of professionals.
