Mills Middle School Newsletter
March 2022
Hello Mustang Families! Quarter 3 is coming to a close quickly. The end of the quarter is on Friday, March 11th. Progress reports will be mailed home to families the week of March 14th.
In February, our 6th and 7th students met with counselors to make their course selections for next year. Our 8th graders heard a presentation from administration on the conditions for promotion and end of year activities. We had 2 Fun Friday rewards for our students with 96 or more merits: Ring Pop Friday and an extended Flex Band Concert! Student Leadership sold Valentine's day grams. Our students continued to be successful in showcasing Prompt behavior and Prompt Pick Ups are happening randomly throughout the school day to promote on time behavior.
In March, we will continue to focus our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) on our school-wide positive behaviors, also known as our Mustang Pride 5 P's: Polite, Positive, Productive, Prepared and Prompt! The behavior of the month for March is PREPARED! See more information in the newsletter below about the Prepared initiatives.
A few friendly reminders, the front office opens at 8:00am and closes at 3:30pm. Please remember to call and make an appointment with the staff member you wish to meet with so we plan accordingly. Cell Phones: Students are allowed to bring their cell phones to school and use them before school, at lunch and after school. Phones need to be off and away during class time and passing periods.
During advisory, students will receive lessons on appropriate technology use, digital citizenship (online behavior) and participate in school-wide surveys about technology use. Additionally, we will have a poster contest for students to create a variety of posters about appropriate cell phone use. A few resources to discuss with your student:
Fun Friday FUN!
This past Friday, our Band and Orchestra students performed during an extended Fun Friday Flex. Students with 96 or more merits were able to attend. Our Band and Orchestra students performed wonderfully!
For our students who were not able to participate, we strongly encourage students to do Merit Recovery (at lunch or during FLEX) to make up any missing merits they may need to reach 96 or more merits. Please speak to your student about their merits, why they may be losing them and what their plan is to recover them. You can read more about our Merit system by reviewing the Student Handbook (see page 3).
We know how a new website/app for students to check their merits at any time - 5 STAR! Please encourage your student to show you how many merits they currently have. Students can log in anytime via the app or the website: https://5starstudents.com/MILLSMS/login
