From the Desk of Mrs. Francis
Clayville staff also focused on establishing clear routines and expectations with students to set the foundation for a successful year. Teachers also assessed students' academic levels to determine each child's strengths and instructional needs. Many exciting events are coming up in the month of October, so be sure to check out the Dates to Remember. As always, I encourage you to reach out with any suggestions, questions, or concerns.
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Francis

Buddy Bench
Last year, the Clayville Student Council wanted to find a way to promote our core value of inclusion in our school. They decided to create a Buddy Bench for the school playground. The Buddy Bench is for those students who may not have a buddy to play with that day. Students can have a seat on the bench letting other friends know they are looking for a friend to play with. A buddy will then come talk to them or ask them to play. The Buddy Bench has been a great tool in helping children to understand how to include all friends during the school day.

So far, we have been visited by Scituate Police Officers and members of the Scituate High football team. Such a fun way to start a school day!

NOTES FROM THE SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST’S CORNER
Even though school has been in session for a month, it’s never too late to review your existing routines and schedules to help your student have a productive, positive school year. Transitioning back to school-helpful tips:
- If you haven’t already done so review and keep handy any notices, student handbooks, requirements, and information about school activities, as well as setting up a calendar with any important dates, like parent-teacher conferences, PTA and other volunteer opportunities.
- Review and establish bedtime, mealtime and homework and morning routines, set up and designate a quiet place for students to study with necessary supplies handy.
- Create a space for backpacks and lunch boxes, with a place for important notices. Part of the routine should include having children clean out their backpack daily, and parents can ensure that important materials that are to return to school the next day are in the backpack when homework is finished.
- Minimize television time and time in front of electronic devices on school nights. Playing quiet games, doing puzzles, reading or doing flash cards are positive alternatives. Ensure a consistent and soothing bedtime and routine. If possible pack lunches the night before as well as setting out clothing for the following day.
- And lastly, show interest and enthusiasm about what your child is learning. It is contagious!!
