Second grade students have been busy comparing and contrasting the Polar Express book and movie. Our culminating project will be creating a Chapperpix video. If you want to see the lesson it can be accessed by going to the website or scanning the QR code.
Kindergarten students have been busy learning about trains and reindeer. We listened to The Polar Express, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as well as learned to navigate a website. They will not be checking out books until after Winter Break. If students did not return their books a letter will be sent home next week.
First graders have also been learning about reindeer and spent the first week of the month practicing for the Winter Concert.
CODING Using Code Studio
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why students in first and second grades in our school are joining in on the learning event: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 9-11 & 14-15). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.
Our Hour of Code is a statement that Meadowlane Primary is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. I encourage you ask your children in first and second grades about the coding activity we did during Media activity time and to go on the website with them.
Kindergarten student will be doing these activities later on during the school year. I encourage you to go on the website and do the activities with your students at this time.
The website address is https://studio.code.org/ and contains several courses that students can participate in based on their age and ability to read. You do not have to sign up for an account to do the activities. To save their work you do need to set up an account
Have a wonderful winter break and remember to KEEP READING!
