Celebrating Diversity
This year has been crazy, but I am so happy to report that the good work that the staff and community are accustomed to at New Prospect hasn’t stopped. If you can believe it, new, great things have started too! Did you know that New Prospect has a Diversity and Inclusion Council now?? How exciting is that? We have always celebrated our diversity at our Taste of New Prospect/International Night event but now we get to celebrate it all year long!
The council has done some great work this semester. Here are their accomplishments so far:
Diversity lessons have been taught to all students during December Brain Building Days! The K-2 lesson emphasizes that it’s ok to be different and that students should be proud of the things that make them unique. The 3-5 lesson went a little deeper focusing on how everyone on earth has similarities and differences with everyone else on the planet. We also defined diversity and four key areas of human diversity: race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and abilities/disabilities. Students participated in activities designed to help them realize that while people often judge others based on the four key areas of human diversity, this is not ok. We want to create a culture at New Prospect where we value the differences of others and treat everyone with kindness.
Heritage Months-We currently have a bulletin board up celebrating South Korea. See below for more information on South Korea with a picture of the board.
Global Diversity Awareness-We launched a Global Diversity Awareness activity and Choice board this week. Students have been excited to participate and we are already getting completed Choice Boards back!
Allyship-Our School Governance Council (SGC) will be partnering with us on this initiative. A committee of people from both SGC and this council met together to define Allyship and develop lessons to introduce the concept to students. The lessons will ideally be delivered at our February Brain Building Days.
Thank you to our amazing council for pushing us to be better! Lead by Mrs. Haga, we have Ivon Van Der Lende, Mrs. McLeod, Tracy Xu, Jamie Friedman, Erin Goldmann, Jalpa Patel, Natalie Blake and Coco Zhang! Thank you so much ladies for making this such a success already. I continue to be so proud to be apart of this amazing school!
As always, please reach out if there is anything you want to discuss or need. Have a great rest of the week.

Explore South Korea
Thanks to Christina Park for sharing these great ideas of things to do in "The Land of the Morning Calm" better known as South Korea
- Enjoy Delicious Korean Food: Culinary delights can be found in restaurants but street foods are a pleasure too! Bibimbap, Kimchi, Korean BBQ.. just to name a few. Check out: The Top 14 South Korean Foods to Try
- Explore Seoul on foot: The best way to get a feel for the daily life in Seoul is to walk around in your free time. Seoul is a dynamic city which offers a wide variety of activities that can be bunched together to create a splendid walking sightseeing tour. One of the best places to explore, where you can see the historical and contemporary cultures coexist, is in the Bukchon Hanok Village.
- The Seoul palaces, are the main traditional sightseeing spots in the Korean capital : The Changdeokgung Palace was the second palace constructed under the Joseon Dynasty and is the best-preserved example of the five palaces that dot the landscape of Seoul. Changdeokgung palace is now listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Built in 1395 C.E., Gyeongbokgung Palace is the most ornate and largest of the five palaces constructed during the Joseon Dynasty. Don't miss the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at Gyeongbokgung Palace.
- Go to Jeju-do - Korea's largest volcanic island: Fly just 45 minutes away from Seoul and you can explore the world famous volcanic island filled with magnificent waterfalls and natural explorations.
COVID Reminders
Parents and guardians,
You are our first line of defense against COVID in our schools. If you, or someone within your household is sick with COVID symptoms, please don't just assume it is something else. The safest thing to do, is assume that what you have is communicable until you know differently and keep your child home. They can participate in class online, they may just miss their small group instruction until the teacher is able to work them into an online group. Thank you to those of you who are already doing this. It is making a huge difference!
If you suspect that your student has had any interaction with a person who may be positive for COVID, or if your child has been given a COVID test, please report that to the portal . Your child should not attend school while waiting for COVID test results.
This information helps our school nurses accurately communicate with the Board of Health and makes sure we are giving the appropriate people all the information they need to make the best decisions they can.
All of the information needed to make a report is HERE or on the front page of the District website at www.fultonschools.org .
