What Is a CCTV PoE Camera?
CCTV or Closed Circuit Television, is a form of security camera used to capture images in a security environment. It uses a series of cameras, including one or more closed circuit TV cameras, to capture images and provide security and surveillance services. Closed circuit television, also called video surveillance, is the usage of video cameras to send a transmitted signal to a particular area, usually on a fixed network of monitors. The transmitted signals are received by a station monitoring the areas where the cameras have been located. These signals are then decoded by the appropriate CCTV camera to obtain motion images, in the form of video.
CCTV security cameras are used for a number of purposes, such as to monitor traffic and prevent crime, to catch thieves and vandals, and to provide evidence at trials, during police investigation, and so on. A closed circuit television camera system allows surveillance over a very limited area. This can be controlled by a remote operator. Often, the operator can restrict viewing to a certain area or only record images at specific times. The systems are therefore useful for monitoring closed circuit TV reception areas, traffic signals, and so on.
Many large businesses and government agencies throughout the world use CCTV surveillance cameras. For example, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) uses closed-circuit television to monitor its territory. The CBP uses closed-circuit television cameras to monitor truck traffic, to prevent drug and human trafficking, and to catch and prosecute criminals who attempt to enter the United States illegally. In addition, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) uses closed-circuit cameras to monitor the flow of trucks on their highways. Similarly, the British Border Services also uses closed-circuit surveillance cameras.
One of the most widely used types of CCTV camera is the IP CCTV camera. These are wireless IP cameras, and allow the user to view the image on a computer screen remotely through the internet. Some IP CCTV cameras can even capture video content directly to an SD card or other storage device. The benefit of this type of camera is that there is no need for physical access to the cameras.
An additional piece of CCTV equipment that has increased in popularity is the DVR (digital video recorder) camera. A DVR camera records not only video footage, but also recordings made by other surveillance equipment. A DVR is particularly useful for companies and businesses that have a need for surveillance on multiple employees, or have a need for reviewing video footage in real time. Digital video Recorders can be used for classroom, boardroom, board meeting, or office surveillance purposes.
Another great benefit of CCTV poe cameras is that they are very affordable. For around $100 US, you can purchase a basic poe camera from many online retailers. Because many IP CCTV systems are simplex and require no initial software to install, it is possible for a do-it-yourselfer with minimal technical experience to operate an IP CCTV system. For added security, many IP cams come with a built-in DVR.
