The trade of diamonds have produced billions of dollars to fund civil wars and other conflicts in Afircan nations. Some people procalaim that 99.8 percent of the world's diamonds are conflict free. 60% of the world'd diamonds are extracted from Africa.

History and Fun Facts

-The term "blood diamond" refers to diamonds that come from war zones in Africa

-Sold illegally to fund war efforts against governments.

-Millions of deaths are traced to the rebel wars and trafficking of these gems.

-At one time the Sierra Leone produced some of the world's best quailty diamonds.
